I am looking for a good reasonable place to buy some patchwork cutters and embossers..I am interested in the Quilted/Diamond style cutters that I have seen used on some of the cakes here...

Never used cutters or embossers on any of my cakes as yet, just some simple flowers using my fondant punch out cutters. I also seen some dots embossers in my searches, does anyone here use those?

Any advice will be appreciated..Mary birthday.gif

You can buy them here. The books are kinda expensive. The cutter do cost some money. Sugarcraft had the best prices I could find so far. I order some last year. You can also try e-bay but they come UK and sometimes the cost is same here be the time you are done bidding.

sugarcraft.com or http://globalsugarart.com/catalog/index.html

they were a little expensive last year when I looked at them:

Here is a store in the UK:

Which Lace embosser/cutter patterns are the best to buy, meaning by design and brand...what would be the best all around pattern to own and have on hand to use?

I found a few nice diamond quilted cutters, wouldn't getting the one without the center designs be the best option?

Do you apply shortening or dust cornstarch to the cutters to make the impressions on the fondant so it wont stick to the icing?

Trying to invest in a nice all around set to get started icon_smile.gif

Which is better to use the metal or plastic patchwork cutters? Or is it just a matter of preference and price?

Official patchwork cutters only come in plastic. To use very lightly rub the cutter with crisco. Roll out your gumpaste very thinly on a board greased with crisco also. In England there are official patchwork cutter videos showing you how to use the cutters.

Thanks TONS...I was wondering if the cutters needed to be prepped first, and using Crisco makes lots of sense....Thanks also about the cutters only coming in plastic, wasn't sure cause the are so many different kinds and styles when looking threw the web sites that they offer, kinda overwhelming but too a good learning process as well.

Thanks for your help, I do appreciate it birthday.gif

I never thought to mention it earlier but there is also a full set of books to go with the cutters showing you different ways of using them and ideas for cakes. They often come up on the english version of ebay for sale or the shop I recommended earlier also sells them. They are only thin paperbacks so shouldn't cost too much to post to you but I find them invaluble

Thanks Bunches and Bunches, getting books at this point is a must for me indeed, got two more Debbie Brown books on the way to me as we speak...I'm a whiz at BC cakes and decorations and but only know a smidgeon about fondant, therefore never ventured off into all the frills, tools and supplies to spiffy up my fondant cakes with, just kept em plain and simple so to say.

Thanks for all your help, I do appreciate it, Mary icon_smile.gif
