Let's see your first fondant cake!

I know how stressing it is for every new cake decorating to cover a cake in fondant. And the thought of making your own?!! That's another story. I was looking at my pics and my first fondant cake actually made me smile. I don't know what I was thinking but thank God I didn't know as much as I did when I first did, or I would never have done it!!! Get it? icon_lol.gif

My first fondant cake was pretty stress free. I actually had fun doing it. I'm attaching a pic of it and I'm hoping my fellow CCers will follow suite. So let's see how you first fondant cake turned out... thumbs_up.gif

my first and only three are in my photos. My first I made the fondant wayyyyyy to thin, but fixed it since then icon_smile.gif

My fisrt is the barbie fairy cake used premade Wilton. The purse is the first MMF. Like everything else, not nearly as hard as I thought.

Mine was a disaster.. I used wilton fondant and it was dry adn I didn't know you could add crisco to it to make it more pliable. Still it didn't come out too bad. It was also my first time making a figure. My DD asked that her birthday cake be a Puppy cake. Puppy is her beloved stuffy that she sleeps with. So rather than be TOTALLY stressed out making an actual cake replica of Puppy.. I made a lifesized fondant model of him to put on top of the cake. I colored the fondant green and it was too dark, but we made it work. LOL

my first fondant cake was the Wilton Course 3 present cake. I made MMF and you could tell I dusted too much cornstarch on it when smoothing - little white dots I couldn't get out.

I used the fondant kit they sell at Michaels, this was before I took any classes.

Totally cute cakes....The little present cake and just for fun cake (in the same colors with flowers) are my actual 1st fondant cake. But Blue lightening McQueen came out awesome (I think) for being only my second fondant cake!!!

This is a fun thread! I would love to see aine2's first, or Duff's...! My first fondant cake was for a friend's baby shower. I used MMF and had some problems because I didn't know about microwaving to make it more pliable! It was too thick, so the cake ended up being SO sweet. Everyone at the shower was polite about it though! It was my first time using RI too...Here's the link:

Oh wow those first fondant cakes are sooo adorable!! Barbie, puppy, tiered cake!!! Oh heck, I didn't know scoot when I did fondant and I was too afraid to make anything out of it icon_lol.gif

Silvercat, your first looks like mine. Just a different version icon_biggrin.gif

Any more brave enough to show their first fondant cake?

Here is my first. I made MMF for the first time and decided to try a christmas themed book cake, first time with that pan also. Too many firsts I think! Ugly but tasted gooooood! icon_biggrin.gif

I just made my first fondant cake last week! It was for my friend's DD who was having a pool party for her 10th birthday. I also made little figures out of candy clay for it. It all went great and I wish I had another occasion for making one already. I still have so much to learn, but I was happy with it and had so much fun! It is in my photos if you want to take a peek icon_biggrin.gif

My first fondant cake is the yellow and black one in my photo's. I made it for my husbands B-day. I liked working with the MMF so I made my daughters B-day cake..Phantom of the Opera...I think I'll make my son's B-day cake out of it next. It's kinda fun (and stressful at times) to work with!

Geesh, my first fondant cake looks like crap compared to all yours icon_lol.gif Anyways, if I remember right, this was my least stressful cake because I didn't know hoot to begin with. I was just having fun. Maggie, that cake looks wonderful! You're very brave icon_biggrin.gif rcs, the phantom of the opera cake is phenomenal and that chocolate mask was gorgeous. Where'd you get the mold for that?

My first fondant cake was a wedding cake, for a friend. I did a practice tier, following the directions on the wilton fondant package (rolling thick with only a light crumb coat of bc underneath). When it came time to do the actual wedding cake (with about 15 members of immediate family standing around the kitchen watching everything I did, as if I'd done it a million times before) I did a fat layer of bc with a thin rolling of fondant. Tasted delicious!!
