I just posted a toilet paper cake in the forums for a paying customer that I'm just not happy with. I was going to charge$50 but now think that is too much as I had all sorts of problems with the filling bulging so my toilet paper looks like a roll that got all wet and puffed out.

I don't work with fondant much ~ 1st mistake trying this out on a customer (though it is a repeat customer - both buyer and receiver of the cake). The molded figure is also a first attempt too.

She always raves about my cakes but this one to me is flop.

Would you still pay $50 for this cake???? It gets delivered this AM

Look - I'm really picky and I think its great! -- You might be too close to it to see --- I would not say omg! so sorry about the cake -- just say What do you think? and depending on their reaction move forward -- I hope this gets to you in time -- I don't know what time -- stay strong!

Thanks everyone for the vote of confidence, I have to deliver it at 8:30 this am so I'm quite nervous about it.

Maybe I'll just not say anything and see what reaction I get then I can go from there, though I'm always the one to start point out flaws

DH is always critiquing so I never know where I stand ~I know he's trying to be helpful but most of the time I just want him to butt out icon_mad.gificon_wink.gif

I think it looks great. Definately looks like TP. As I've seen so many times on here before "we are to critical of ourselves". I bet the birthday person and buyer will love it.

we are always our own worst critics, i love this cake and im sure your customers will too!

I agree with everyone else. It looks like tp!! Your fondant work is a million times better than mine.

Never point out your flaws, you're just asking for people to talk your prices down. At the end of the day, you're producing a piece of art that customers could never do so be proud of what you've done, it looks fabulous!!

I think it looks great too! The little guy...looks like he's doubled over and is worried that that roll ain't gonna be enough!
he's praying...

"Please, God, just let this pass and I promise I won't eat another jalapeno! (waaaaaaaaaa,I didn't know I couldn't handle 'em like I used to...waaaaaaaaa)"

I think it looks good. I agree with maryak. Let us know how it goes because it's a learning experience for us all. Just because we are critical of our own work, our customers might not see the flaws that we do.

You're kidding right? icon_eek.gif

I think the cake looks GREAT!!!!! I would be thrilled to get that cake. icon_biggrin.gif

Do I think you should charge $50....... no, you are underpricing yourself!!! That is a totally custom cake with a figure, you should be charging at least $75. (SERIOUSLY!!!!)

Rule #1: You are NOT allowed to say anything bad about your cakes to the customers.

You are the only one who notices the flaws. IF they point them out then you can talk about what they pointed out, but we are our own worst critic!

I thought my last wedding cake (square, round, square, round with pink ribbon and silver dragees) was a DISASTER! It was embarrassing (check out my thread with pics of what a true true disaster it was! http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-293333-.html )

I vowed NOT to say anything, not only did she not notice how terrible it was she called me after the reception (anyone have a bride think to call the cake lady the day of her wedding?!) and RAVE RAVE RAVE about how much she loved it. She even went out of her way to send me emails later to tell me how much she loved it. My objective friend at the wedding loved it........ How they couldn't see what a disaster it was I'll never know, but just goes to prove rule #1

I think you did a wonderful job! Just announce, "Here it is", and see how they react. I'm sure they will be duly impressed. Good luck and let us know how it goes. I'm sure we'll hear how much they loved it!

I'll be shocked if the customer doesn't love it. It may not look exactly the way you pictured it in your mind before you started, but I think it's good. I would charge her what you had planned.
