What are the different/best methods for transferring a picture onto a cake? I"ve always done FBCT, but now I want to try to do a dora right onto the cake and then fill it in with glaze (saw one done by LadyCakes).

thanks!

There are several ways of putting an image on a cake. A few of them are:

1. Piping gel transfer: Out line the image you want to use with piping gel on wax paper. You can then turn this over onto the cake and lightly rub your hand over it and it will transfer the piping gel onto the cake, and you can use that as a guide to follow.

2. Royal icing: Same idea as above, only using a piece of glass or pelixglass. Out line your image with royal icing and let dry. When it dries you can then flip this over on to the cake and lightly press it into your icing. This will leave an indentation for you to follow.

3. Cut your image out of card stock and place it on the cake, then trace around it. For other or smaller details of your image you can make other stencils for them and out line them inside the larger outline.

Please note these would all need to be done on a cursting buttercream so that you can remove the wax paper, glass or card stock stencils with out removing your icing with it.
