Whew--I almost had a disaster with a wedding cake. Thank goodness for the Stress-Free Support System that I used and a center dowel.

Delivered "Amy's Cake" already stacked to reception (put ribbon on at reception hall). The cart that I got from the church had a 2-3 inch side on it all the way around. Cake was too big to put flat on the cart, so I put the large box that I use in the back of my car on top of the sides so that it was all the way across the cart. Put the cake in the box and the box tilted into the cart on one side.

A pretty good stop that jarred the cake. The cake was in the box at 15-20 degree slant--NOTHING MOVED! Everything stayed where it was. Carefully reset box making sure that it was equally straddled on the sides. Once I got into the hall and was getting ready to remove the cake. The box tilted and jarred again--NOTHING MOVED! I thought my assistant was going to have a heart attack.

Thank goodness for Arlene Haas, the maker of the support system. Thank goodness for Earlene Moore who told me about them. And thank goodness I looked past the price and bought them. Sorry this is so long, but if anyone is considering buying them...they are worth it!

Good thing you had them! I really have no idea what they are, but they sound fantastic!
Your cake was beautiful, btw!

I would also like to know what they are and how it's used and where to buy them?

Check Earlene Moore's website:

www.earlenescakes.com

They are called stress-free support system
They are stainless steel rings in various sizes with 4 screws welds. Then they have 4 plastic screw on legs that you can adjust to different heights. Once the legs are screwed in place ( and they help with keeping your cake level), you place the smaller cake on top and place over bottom cake, insert until the legs stop and your top cake is sitting on the base cake.

I know that doesn't make sense but once you see it, it will. When I got mine about 3-4 years ago, they were $179.00 (sizes 14", 12", 10", 8", 6" and 4"). I think they now cost $200.00.

What a great advertisement for SFS! I would've had a heart attack too! Great job!

How do you make sure you get them back after the event? I would be so concerned about someone just tossing them out.

I have lost a few of the screw-on legs but those are about $5.00 to replace. I have a deposit of $100.00 for equipment but also if I use the SFS, they sign a paper that shows the price of the system and states that they will be responsible for replacing the items if not returned.

Most of the customers and wedding consultants, if they know you have used them, have been great about returning them. Wedding consultants because they don't want to alienate the decorators. And customers, because they want you to continue making cakes for them. I may be naive and it just might come back and bite me in the butt.

I don't use them for all cakes, just the ones that I am pressed for time and have to deliver already stacked. Or if I get a bad feeling about someone, I won't use them. The birde that didn't return the legs to the system, has only called me for one other cake (before I made clients sign a SFS return form). I chased her down and called numerous times to try to get the legs back--they apparently threw them away and didn't want to reimburse me for them. ($5.00 + shipping, for pete's sake). When she needed a cake, she had her husband call to order. Told him the cost of the cake plus additional $10.00 for replacing the legs. They paid it but she doesn't call anymore. Oh well!
