I just got a call from a good friend who asked me if I would make her a cake for her birthday party next week. I was thrilled someone liked my cakes enough to ask me so I quickly said yes.
I asked her what she wanted it to look like and she said she didn't care to just make it cute.
So I need help. What would you do? She loves girly things. Pink is her favorite color. The party is going to be at a scrapbooking place and they will be scrapbooking from 11:00am until midnight.
I was thinking of doing something that looked like a scrapbook but then I tossed that idea out as I don't do scrapbooking and have no idea what I would do.
If you guys have any ideas or cute girly looking cakes I would love to see them.
Thanks for your help. Everyone here is the best!
Joanne
well, going with the girly thing, a purse cake, a pretty round cake with circles in different shades of pink (like ashton and demi's cake), flowers, anything like that
going with the scrapbooking thing, a cake carved to look like a xyron cutter (definitely a scrapper thing) would be so cool, you could make it pink. let me look for photos quick.
If I were you, I would re-visit the scrap book "theme" idea, especially if you work with fondant. You can make a sheet or square cake, with all kinds of different colors, and cut out pink flowers, etc....... They use stamps, buttons, and it's all different textures (how do I know? I'm a beginner scrap-booker-lady!) =) I really love going to a craft store & looking at all their paper, and you could make the birthday message so cute. A lot of the books are square in shape, and you could do a 2" high cake, so that's a little easier. Maybe make the main color theme in pink. At the moment, I can't think of a scrapbooking website, but you can try doing a google search.
Or - if you really don't want to attempt it, maybe just make her a lovely pink cake. Maybe a flower, or a ladybug or something that you've always wanted to attempt? My friend asked me to bring a cake to her Summer BBQ so her friends & other parents at her childrens' school could sample my cakes... she meant a sheet cake, but I brought the beehive cake you can see in my gallery.
I just think you should make it a very fun experience for YOU! Maybe a Present cake or something that her guests may not realize is a cake (I love those).
Good luck deciding, it's tough!

and here's some purse cakes

It's so funny how we can't wait to do this and that, but when someone actually gives us the go ahead to do whatever, we are just dumfounded!
I think revisiting the scrapbook theme is definitely a good idea....especially if you have access to edible images! There are some adorable ideas in the gallery and/or searching for scrapbook on the internet will yield a lot of page ideas that you might be able to translate into cake. Good luck....have fun!
