I made some sample cookies to check out the electric colors I plan to use this weekend. I used the no-fail recipe and the cookies were nice and soft after cooling, not too soft, just not crunchy hard like some sugar cookies. My son had one them about an hour after I iced them with Antonia's Icing.. still soft - tasted great. My son only likes the softer sugar cookies. Two days later, the cookies are hard. How do I keep them soft? Is that possible?

Also - The cookies I am making this weekend are alien heads I would like the icing to stay shiny. Is there any way to do that?

Thanks.

can't help with shiny, but i can help with soft.

add a slice of bread to your container there the cookies are being stored. I've done it several times. I've even read that it can help soften hardened cookies. Put a slice in tonight and tell us how it worked tomorrow thumbs_up.gif

I actually made them last Thursday and threw the remaining hard ones away earlier today. I will definitely try that with the next batch though.

Thanks.

I may be able to help with the shine. I'v never tried this with Antonias icing but if you dry normal royal icing under a reading lamp for 10 -15 minutes you get a lovely shine on them

it's worth a try. I'll let you know if it works.
