I have never used the candy melts in mine before - but I think you can. You just have to make sure you get it melted with the right consistency - pretty thin. With regular chocolate, it takes quite a bit of oil - unless you buy the really good 60% butter fat chocolate.

I think it sounds like a great idea - I bet it will really look cool. We may have to try something like that next time I pull it out.

Thank you for your quick response. I just might have to do a dry run. The kids will love it! What a treat!

Oh, I will add...if you have never used your chocolate fountain before with children...i will give you a little advice.

Leave it in the kitchen and do not allow them to walk out with any chocolate covered food. If it has to be over carpet, put down large vinal table colths on the floor - and tape them down so that the little ones won't trip over them.

Let's just say, I had to have my carpets cleaned after our last 2 chocolate fountain experiences.

Oh - and if you are using strawberries as dippers...you can never have enough strawberries. I bout double the amount I needed and still ran out before everyone was happy.

Let me know how it goes.

why not use real white chocolate and put in some purple powdered food coloring? It'll taste a lot better.

I LOVE that idea - my cousin is getting married & one of her wedding colors is fuscia, so now I have to advise her of this - since she's having a fountain at the wedding... and yes, I'm making the cake! =)

We used the candy melts for my grandsons circus birthday party. It works great we melted them first and added the oil to it. It was bright yellow.

Good luck! I had one at my wedding and it was AWESOME! But then we tried it at home - twice - and it was an absolute disaster! We couldn't get it flowing at all - it was sooo weird. It just kinda "glopped". So make sure you read instructions - and then yeah - make sure you put down a bunch of towels or newspapers or something and have plenty of plates & napkins!!!!!

Good luck!

It sounds like it'll look really cool, but I'm wondering if people will be as attracted to eat it as they will to look at it. Sometimes funky colored food is a turn off. Remember the green ketchup and the blue applesauce?

We just held a luau themed pot luck to welcome our new pastor at church and it was fabulous!! We used the merkins chocolate and a good cup and a half 0f oil for four pounds and there still was not enough chocolate!

I also ndid the fountain for a Holiday party for some kids at school and they thought it was the best! The kids had so much fun and were so loud with their oohs and ahhs that we had to invite classes next to ours because the kids were sneaking out of their classes to see what all the commotion was about. I love my chocolate fountain!

Thanks everyone for their advice. The chocolate fountain was a success! I used 2 bags of the wilton purple chocolate. I am not sure how much oil I had to use. The chocolate needed alot more than the chips. But everyone loved the color and thought it was a great idea. It looked really pretty with the fruit. Thanks again.
