I am planning on making a 11x15 sheetcake for my belly dance troupes hafla in July and need some ideas on design. I have been searching for pics and clip art and haven't found exactly what I want, so I thought maybe some of you very creative ladies might have a thought you could share????

If all else fails, I may go with a simple design with our name and then maybe try my hand at a chocolate transfer of a dancer. That would give me a silhoutte and I wouldn't have to tackle a face... icon_confused.gif that scares me. Haven't tried a choc transfer yet, so I might need to practice that now!!

I am so nervous!!!! icon_cry.gif and I don't want to freeze up. Oh well, if you have any ideas I would love to hear them. Thanks so much!!!

I was going to look a cake recently posted in the gallery and got interupted. It was with a lady's body and a bikini. Maybe you can do that belly dancer style. It should be in the recent uploads.

Good luck!
Jasmine

P.S. I guess if we all did bellydancing, we could eat more of our cakes - huh?

Hi, I was already really enthusiastic icon_wink.gif and wanted to say make a persian palace with belly dancers, then I read you wanted to make a sheet cake icon_biggrin.gif Well you can still make a sheet cake and add some towers icon_wink.gif ... if you really want to do that, it's quite easy, just take a normal cake a cut rounds, put two or three together (same hight as the sheetcake) and cover them with fondant or BC. For the tops I also carved the cake and covered it with fondant and dusted it with gold.

If you want a pic of a belly dancer kind of girl, which is not so difficult just have a look a this one of Debbie Brown:

If you want a tutorial on a face:

And if you want to have a look at the palace icon_wink.gif it's in my pics

The idea of a chocolate transfer of a belly dancer is one i really like too, maybe you could add some persian colors to the cake (warm colors, orange, pink, red and yellow or something). Or other wise some Jasmine-style cake maybe....

Good luck!! thumbs_up.gif

OMG Lara, your cake is beautiful!!! I love it! icon_biggrin.gif
Thanks for the ideas, I am starting to sketch a few things to see if I can do them....I will be stepping out of my comfort zone on design here icon_lol.gif and that is scary!!

I am going sheetcake on this, since there are so many of us! We are each bringing a dish, but I wanted to bring a cake and with a design that had something to do with us....your ideas are great!

Thanks again, I had better go get busy thinking instead of surfing!

I'm planning on doing a bellydance cake at the end of June, for a recital. icon_smile.gif I'd thought of doing basically a sheet cake with a woman's figure carved out, with half-balls for the jiggly bits, and covered with fondant for the choli. More fondant for the pants or skirt, and either fondant or icing ropes for decoration on the choli. Wish i had a pic to show what I'm thinking of. I'm going to try to do a practice cake week after next, and I'll post pics then.

I'm also going to check the cake and candy store in Newton (Shirley's) to see if she has any 'money' molds. I know she has dollars... I need coins! I figure on either chocolate or fondant 'coins' painted with gold dust/vodka, or silver dust/vodka.

Just another idea. I love the palaces, though! Those are awesome! icon_smile.gif

Your idea sounds wonderfull too, and hard icon_lol.gif , I have never carved a cake before....guess I could start practice now, since our hafla isn't until July! The idea of a fondant choli is perfect!!! and the coins would be a cool touch.
You know, I have yet to go to Shirley's!! I am doing that this weekend just to see all of the things she has that I need/want....that would be everything!

I can't wait to see your pictures!!!! I now you will do a spectacular job. Maybe if I just start doing practice cakes then I wouldn't be so freaked out about doing THE ACTUAL cake...ya know.
