I have just gotten an order for a Nancy Drew cake for a bunch of 13 year old girls for next Monday. Any ideas for a cool mystery/detective type cake? Thanks!

It probably won't work for a Nancy Drew theme, but wouldn't making the top of your cake into a Clue board be fun? you could make the little couches and pool tables and plants in 3D... Sorry, just a fun idea.

This website might help...they are bringing Nancy Drew back out, which is probably why you have an order. I don't know if you have checked out the site, but it just might spark some ideas...

edited to say she even has a myspace now. LOL I saw that on the WB website. I think the logo would look great on the cake with maybe a flashlight, magnifying glass, etc.

With the Nancy Drew movie opening this Friday (6/15) you might be able to find some interesting ideas on the internet.

One idea...hide a prize in the cake and make a list of clues to what it is.
The girls can guess and someone wins the prize... make the decorating part of the clues....

Just an idea, but maybe, with all the books out there, you could actually make the cake look like a Nancy Drew Book and make up a creative title, like "The Mystery of the 13th Birthday" (I know, not very creative, but I'm sure you could come up with a better title icon_smile.gif ) If you've ever done the FBCTs you could probably do a cool picture of Nancy Drew holding her magnifying glass or something.

Hope this helps!

Just a little funny for those of us that grew up with the original Nancy Drew mystery books. My 19 yr old son's girlfriend caught onto to a little lie her brother was telling - I laughed and said "your a regular Nancy Drew!" My son looked at me with a confused expression and asked "Isn't Nancy Drew one of the Golden Girls?"
icon_eek.gif AHHHHH - the generation gap!

P.S. = I agree and was thinking of the magnifying glass also = or maybe a book(s) with her mystery title(s),

Nancy Drew Secret of the Old Clock
Nancy Drew Danger on Deception Island
Nancy Drew The Haunted Carousel
Nancy Drew Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake
Nancy Drew Secret of the Scarlet Hand
Nancy Drew Treasure in the Royal Tower
Nancy Drew Message in a Haunted Mansion

Not sure if any of the kids now would recognize any of these titles though. Didn't Nancy have a sidekick friend - or an aunt or something? Wow - considering I read these while growing up, I'm really no help at all - sorry. icon_confused.gif

Since it's a girly birthday party, I'd decorate the cake maybe in pink, with accessories all over it, make up, hair brush, but also a magnifying glass, and other detective-y things. . . . just an idea. icon_rolleyes.gif

I'd totally make it look like one of the book covers - the only problem is that these girls are probably thinking "Nancy Drew - THE MOVIE" not the book! icon_sad.gif

I'd Google the movie and see if you can find any ideas.

The movie Nancy Drew is a major dissappointment from the previews- Nothing like the books! icon_cry.gif I would find out if the B-day girl is into the books or if the party is all about the movie Nancy drew!

If we are worried about the girls not knowing what the book covers look like could you make the cake look like the promo poster for the movie? even an ediable image?

I've got an 8 yr old daughter that's been reading Nancy Drew books over the last year and LOVES them. Now that the movie is coming out, she's even more excited to read the books (AND see the movie), but is reading the same books I read when I was her age (thank God for the library!!!). The Nancy Drew series of books start off as the Nancy Drew Notebooks ... she's got a notebook that she writes all her clues/suspects in. Her side kicks are her best friend and her cousin, Bes and George (both girls). One is blonde and the other has short, dark curly hair. The series then moves into the books we read and now there is another series called "The New Nancy Drew". I suggest you actually go to the library and look through the books for ideas. The one my daughter is reading now is one of the New Nancy Drew books. On the back it says:

She's Sharp.
She's Smart.
She's confident.
She's unstoppable.
And she's on your trail.
Meet the New Nancy Drew.

Would love to know what you come up with ... my daughter's birthday is in July and I told her I was surprising her with her cake this year. I have no idea what I'm doing at this point, but she'd probably like something along these lines.

The magnifying glass and notebook sound good to me too. She is going to use a computer for sure! Someone let us know if she actually uses them now in the movie. The birthday girl probably loves the books and is looking forward to the movies. Maybe do a little pile of books with something from the movie on top? Maybe the girls are going to see the movie first? See the movie if you can and if there's a surprise ending or a big clue, work that into the cake. I still get the willies when I think of her books and that was 40 years ago! icon_surprised.gif

My 11 year old has been reading nancy drew for a couple of years, we just saw the new movie and we all LOVED it! Highly recommended, however its not what we all grew up watching. For Christmas we got our kids the old version of the real Nancy Drew DVD's from Amazon (the 1st season) and what a hoot!!! The kids thought it was pretty good, we also got the Hardy boys too!

I like the idea of a book cake and maybe a big magnifyiing glass on top "magnifying" the girl's age or happy birthday. And around the book you could put fondant pieces of solving mysteries.

good luck post the pic!

The Nancy Drew computer games are so much fun. The covers of the games would be great for a cake design.
