My friend is trying to copy a cake by a bakery. It is described as having chocolate fondant on it by the bakery. The chocolate looks as though it has been poured on the top and dribbles down the sides. Can this be fondant?

Pouring with dribbles sounds like ganache. Ganache is about 50/50 choccolate and cream.

Lori - thank you for posting this for me - just finally was able to get on!

JoAnnB - Does Ganache get hard kind of like Magic Shell does for ice cream? Also can your pour it over buttercream icing? The bakery said it is a fudge over the buttercream icing but their website says it is chocolate fondant. Whatever it is it is poured over because the way it looks on the sides of the cake.

If they call it 'fudge' it is very likely to be ganache. You can pour it over most anything, including buttercream. you need to be sure to let it cool and pour it over cool buttercream to prevent melting.

It dries firm, but not hard like the chocolate shell.
