Sure you can. I use cocoa all the time in mine. I make the Chocolate Syrup frosting in the recipe section on this site. It has cocoa and chocolate Hershey's syrup. It is the BEST icing. If you have some chocolate syrup, you should try it. If not, there should be a good recipe using only cocoa.

I just add cocoa powder to my buttercream to make chocolate buttercream...plus some brown coloring and a touch of black coloring to get it a darker shade of brown.

Yes, I use cocoa powder all the time. Although not necessary I always sift it as well as the powdered sugar. Best of luck!

on the back of the hershey's cocoa powder can is a frosting recipe. It is very yummy! by memory I want to say that the recipe is 3 cups powdered sugar, 2/3 cups cocoa, and hmmm3/4 cup butter? 1 tsp vanilla, 1/3 cup milk. You melt the butter, mix in cocoa, then add the rest of the ingredients. I am guessing you could find the recipe online to double check my recipe
