I would like to start adding some simple sugar decorations to some of my cakes...ie..sugar bubbles...I would have loved to have a sugar window in my last cake, etc. Can someone please give me a list of the basic supplies and ingredients that I need to purchase and where I would be able to purchase them? Thanks so much!!

Be prepared for sticker shock. I bought all of my sugar equipment from Albert Uster when I took Ewald Notters pulled and blown sugar course in 2000, I paid nearly $1,000 and that wasn't including shipping home. Consider the class was $850.00 on top of the equipment, motel and meals, and flight back and forth plus shuttles to and from airports. The most expensive 5 day vacation I had ever taken.

These items now sit on a shelf used maybe once a year. There just isn't enough call for this type of work in my area and no one is willing to pay the price I would have to charge for the pieces. I will always be grateful I was able to take this class, I loved it. But unless you are planning to go into this as a profession, most people can't afford it or find it that useful. You might want to buy just the sugar pump, a Silpat mat, Isomalt and a cold blow dryer, an alcohol lamp for burning the sugar bubbles off the pump.

Chef Rubber also carries some of the equipment. The sugar pump is less expensive but I wouldn't recommend one with a wooden blowing tip, they don't hold up the way one with a metal tip will.
