I'm going to an Italian-themed potluck next weekend and will be in charge of dessert (yay!). After browsing a few sites for recipe ideas, I'm thinking tiramisu would be a hit - I found a recipe for a "tiramisu layer cake" that sounds divine! However, it calls for coffee liqueur (I assume this is Kahlua?) both in the frosting and for "soaking" the cake, and I am pregnant, so the booze is off-limits. Any ideas for a good way to substitute? I've been reading about simple syrups (which I've never tried) and wondered if maybe combining that with some coffee would suffice (not sure whether to use brewed coffee or granules though).

Suggestions? Other recipe ideas? I'm flexible!

Thanks in advance! icon_smile.gif

instant expresso gives more control as to concentration and how much liquid.

I have made homemade Kahlua and the flavor was a combination of coffee and vanilla.
