Hi all..I don't know if this has already been done, but I thought it would be good to have a place to go to for cake combination ideas.

The thought is that we could post our most popular cake/filling/icing/simple sugar flavor combinations to refer to when we need some ideas. I'm not talking about recipes, just combos. Perhaps we can PM for recipes.

here's one of mine:

Chocolate cake with
chocolate rum toffee mousse filling,
Dark chocolate ganach icing.

Bring cream, sugar, and corn syrup to simmer in heavy medium saucepan. Add chocolate and stir until melted and smooth. Transfer mixture to medium bowl. Add peanut butter and whisk until mixture is smooth

I loved my 7UP lemon cake (from a cake mix) with lemon-lime curd filling and lemon buttercream. yummy yummy! I'd love to hear other flavor combinations too though. I found one recipe in a book for a peach cake w/ brown sugar frosting...... I would love to try that! And I had a caramel apple cake for my wedding and found a recipe and I'm still wanting to try that one too!

Pink champagne cake is a white box cake and I replaced all the milk/water with champagne and added a little red food coloring. It smells a lot stronger than it tastes.

This is really easy and tastes great. Mix 1 coconut cake mix and 1 pinapple cake mix(Duncan Hines makes both). This makes kind of a pina colada cake. I like to frost or fill mine with cream cheese icing. icon_smile.gif

I just did a double chocolate fudge cake with hazelnut fudge filling. I also did a lemon supreme cake with rasperry filling. My favorite is a butter pecan cake with caramel pecan filling.

My favorie is yellow cake with a layer of strawberry and a layer of banana. The two of the cakes that are favorites of my family is a yellow cake with a layer of rasberry and layer of coconut rum and then a yellow/choc/yellow cake with choc genache and rasberry rum. I used vanilla BC on all of these. Not to exciting yet but thats why everyone loves the basics!!!

When you do the liquor soaks, do you use the actual liquor or do you mix it with something?

pope77: what kind of strawberry filling do you use?

Does the liquor soak make the cake all mushy?

rezzygirl Cake Central Cake Decorator Profile

I use a combination of simple syrup and the liqueor flavoring. You can use extracts and fruit juices also. Just be careful of how much to use and your cake will not be mushy. It doesn't take a lot of liquid, but it depends on your recipe. I use about 1/4 cup per layer., Some use more or less.

To make simple syrup, place equal amounts of granulated sugar and water in a pan (or bowl if using a microwave). Bring to a boil until sugar dissolves. let cool. all set. You can then add your flavorings to it.

Now don't I feel like a dunce. I didn't know that it was just simple syrup with flavoring added. Ok another dumb question: are the liquors flavorings that you purchase or do I just pick up a small bottle of the actual liquor from the liquor store?
