I am so glad everyone so far agrees. I was feeling kinda mean. But I also guess some people think of us as a BAKERY instead of specialty bakers...and as of right now I am using my church's kitchen as our lease was up on our old shop and things were falling apart there and landlord didnt want to fix them...(but thats another story)I might need to clarify for them..that we are NOT a bakery..maybe they figure that we have tons of their favorite lying around and just grab one as we are going out the door to meet with them. Instead of the reality that we all know ..of shopping for ingredients ...baking ...cleaning up the mess...decorating...cleaning up again etc.

It's simple. Don't get mad. Say no. Or charge him for it.

And I don't know of any bakeries that give away free cakes.

Most places I know of charge a tasting fee, but if you order from them then that fee comes off the price of the cake. Makes sense to me...or people could just set up appointments to "eat" cake for free all the time without ever intending to place an order. I would definately charge him for it!

True...most bakeries don't give away cakes...lol. But ours do have samples at times...but I don't think the average person knows what all goes into providing those samples when you dont already just have it lying around in volume.

What are you going to do, he's an Idiot and Idiots stay Idiots.

First I would feel good that he liked my cake that much.

I know it is very puts you in a spot and you don't want to say anything.

You could say you are backed up with orders and you just don't have the time.

You could tell him that in order to provide him with another sample you would have to make a whole cake and no one else has asked to try that flavor at this time. But, you could purchase a whole cake.

Or when you get there tell him you're really sorry but you were backed up with last minute orders and you just couldn't get to making samples. I am sure he won't change his mind.

I don't charge for tasting. I only had one couple not purchase from me. Down the road I may charge and take deduct it if they order the cake.

The first time ...a tasting, the second time...that's a craving!!!!!

But what a compliment on your cakes!

Hey, you can't blame that big 'ol guy for trying!!!!! Now charge him!!!!!!

I have a feeling that you are going to be sample testing cakes for quite awhile if you let him. I think you really need to weigh if you want this order or not. I think his big fat a@# is going to turn into a pain in the a@# for you!!!!!!

I love your assistant's comment - that's awesome! I agree - one sample is fine, but another of the SAME thing he went on and on about is NOT free. Tell him that you're glad to provide one sample, but anything additional you will have to charge him for. The fact that you made additional sample cookies, probably for no charge, I'm guessing, is quite enough. Maybe give him a cookbook, that way he could feed his own fat a**. icon_lol.gif I think your assistant and I would get in to trouble together! LOL
