I priced a cupcake cake for a girl at work at .65 cents a cupcake. I know there was a link here to someone who charged .90 but I'm very new to this and thought the lower price for me was more accurate. Now she's asked what a sheet cake price would be.
I've looked at different serving charts and just still don't feel 100% comfortable with them. Can someone tell me how many servings an 11x15 single layer sheet cake should product. This is for a little girls first bday so I know they aren't going to be cut in perfect 2x2 pieces.
Is it right that a cupcake cake should be a bit more than a regular sheet cake because of the time of filling and the fact it's something different that the regular stores don't do?

i'm not sure how many fit on an 11x15 board. It should be something like 40. I charged probably about .90/ per cupcake and that includes decorating and filling. BCT is extra.

BTW, I have never cut mine they are per person. Hope this helps.

A 11x15 is "suppose" to serve up to 48. It is what I consider a 1/2 sheet cake, I charge $20. As for the cupcake cake, I've not made one of those. But I do charge $5.00 a dozen cupcakes. HTH!

When you put cupcakes on an 11x15 board they don't fit together exactly (there are spaces in between the cupcakes). So you would not be able to get the amount of servings that a whole 11x15 cake would get.

I personally think that you are way too low. But maybe that is the price for your area. If you are only charging $5 per dozen you are really not making anything the same with only charging 20 for a 11x15. You should be charging at least 3x your cost. An 11x15 takes two cake mixes plus frosting, filling,electricity, wear and tear on equipment. When you figure it out you are not making more then $5 if that and that would mean you are making about 1-1.50 an hour.

I charge a start price of 35 for 11x15 and my cupcakes start at 1.50 for just buttercream nothing more. I am not a grocery store, so if they want to pay grocery store prices they can go to the grocery store.

As decorators, pricing is hard, but you need to take more value in your product, time and talent and charge appropiately.

Depending on the detail required for the cupcakes would be the deciding factor for the price. Have you thought about putting the cupcakes together to make it look like a cake? I've seen several of those on here... where they did icing over them all and smoothed the top to give an appearance of a cake ... you could make it into a cute shape and then decorate it .. might not cost as much to do it that way and would be much easier than having to decorate each cupcake individually

My old bakery used to do cupcake cake in the staggered fashion and would charge about $10 (if I remember right). However, they did not take the time to bake their own cupcakes or make their own frosting. They are quick and easy to make, but I would definitely charge at least $18 for the extra effort, but that's my opinion.

I would have to agree with CakeConfections, that is about what I charge, usually $40 - $50 for a cake this size with a complicated transfer or lots of decorations, candy molds etc. $35-$40 would be a fairly simple 11x 15 for me. Now most of my cakes are from scratch and I do use butter and milk and cream in my cakes and icings, so you might want to take that into consideration too. But actually I would still charge $35 for a cake mix made with milk and other doctoring up.
Where I live a grocery store cake in a 9x13 is $25. Most cupcakes in these same stores are $1. and up.
A cupcake cake with a transfer is a lot of work as are individual cupcakes. A cupcake cake with just some sprinkles thrown on top, is a lot less work, but again, I would charge about $1. to $1.50 a cupcake. like CakeConfections.
I consider an 11x15 to serve 30 and a two layer one to serve 60. Wilton says 60 for either one or two layers. We all have our different estimates.
