Anyone Else Frustrated That Patterns Aren't In Yearbooks?

It has always frustrated me that Wilton doesn't include patterns in their yearbooks - that you have to buy them seperately. Does anyone else feel this way? You can't get the pattern books anywhere but Wilton as far as I know... and then you have to pay an extra $8 and shipping so that you can make the cakes that are in the yearbook! Why wouldn't you want the patterns if you buy the book? I've never seen another cake book that didn't include the patterns except for Wilton books. I know that they are putting some of the patterns online - which is great, but you still have to wait a year to make any of the cakes in the yearbook? Does that make sense to anyone?

Sorry for the little rant - I just bought a Wilton book on ebay and of course it doesn't have the patterns for all the cool things in it and it's from the 1980's - so i don't know if I can find it. Just frustrates me....

I know what you mean. I got the Yearbook what, a month ago? And just was able to get the pattern book this week. Wal-Mart doesn't sell the pattern books, and they always have the yearbooks before Michaels or Hobby Lobby....

And I also have some old yearbooks, lots of them, that I don't have pattern books to, and I am not a good artist. Someone else has to draw my pictures! LOL

I totally agree. There have been times I have had to freehand a pattern because I didn't have the book. I like a lot of Wilton's ideas, but having to buy 2 seperate books is not one of them. icon_sad.gif They should at least offer a discount package when you buy both!!

I've never been able to get pattern books at Michael's or Wal-mart or anywhere..... I thought if I got enough posts to this I could send it to Wilton and maybe they would change something!

I have about 40 years of Wilton Yearbooks, plus the pattern books. I have never used even one pattern. If the patterns were in the Yearbooks, the book would be twice as big and probably twice as expensive. I also have about 700 character cake pans, but have used fewer than 1/3 of them. Go figure. I am a collector. Dust, mostly icon_redface.gif

Btw, back in the day, the patterns books were actually pattern folders, all the pages were loose. PITA if you dropped the stack.

My mom and I were just talking about this the other day! We can't find the pattern books at the stores either, so we usually get them on-line. They really need to include the patterns in the year books or have them available on-line for free. Very aggravating that they do this!!! icon_mad.gif

yeah it's cool that they put them online now - but you still have to wait a year to get them..... they don't seem to put the patterns out for the current year until the next year's yearbook is out.... that's kinda frustrating. You buy the yearbook when it first comes out, get all excited, and then realize you don't have patterns for a lot of it...... icon_sad.gif But kudos to them for putting it on there at all I guess....

Hah! My kids think I am a collector of cake pans--I'll refer them to this post from you. icon_lol.gif I have many yearbooks and many pattern books and have never used the pattern books. Also have lots of character pans but not nearly 700. I am also a very avid collector of dust. icon_lol.gif

I also collect whiskey pitchers, Budweiser steins, M & M items and Pillsbury Doughboy along with various antiques. They also collect dust very well. icon_lol.gif

One of these days my children will have all of this to dispose of. Sweet Revenge for all they've done............. icon_biggrin.gifthumbs_up.gificon_biggrin.gif

I just got my pattern book at AC Moore (none at Michaels). I see that Doug's in NC also so not sure if AC Moore is a regional store. I've had the yearbook for a couple of weeks and was beginning to think that I wouldn't get a pattern book and was dreaming up ways to create the patterns myself...ooh scary.

I have to say that I too am an avid collector of dust though I don't go looking for it, it comes to me. detective.gif

I don't like that they don't have it in the yearbooks either. However at the cake store I go to here she sells them for like 6 dollars. I get pretty lucky because she has everything-lol. But I agree that they shold be in there or at least sold at the same place you buy it.

Another thing that makes me mad is the fact that we pay big bucks for the yearbooks and half of the book is a catalog to sell their products. For that reason alone, the patterns should be included. More and more I get disgusted with Wilton. Glad that I have learned of other places to shop on CC.

So here's an idea to send to Wilton. Kind of on the discount-package-deal line. Wonder if they would consider putting a coupon in the Yearbook, for maybe a couple dollars off the pattern book. Then at least you can a discount if you want the patterns. I think someone who is good at art wouldn't need the patterns, but I do need them. Even better, though, I would like to see the patterns in the book, even if it's just the lettering or the pictures......... like the color flow patterns.......

I guess it's Wilton's way of making more money. I pretty much "wing it" when making their cakes. I haven't been able to find the pattern books anywhere either. For some caked you could really use the patterns to simplify things.
