Hi all....I have had SO many requests for instructions on how I did my dragon cake that I thought it might just be easier to post them here!
I hope they are useful to someone...I'm just sorry I didn't take more pics during the process. Who'd a thought it would be so popular?!

Dragon Cake Instructions
Take a 12 in (x 2in high) round cake and, looking down on it, carve the basic shape of the dragon's body close to one edge of the cake and curving around, starting at the neck and down to about half of the tail, not including the legs. You end up with what looks like a REALLY fat snake shape. This should use up a little more than about half of the round with scraps and a larger chunk leftover. With the larger chunk, carve a smaller layer to place on the dragon's "back" just to give it some height, and then round out the body part. Then I used the scraps that were left to add the legs and an extension onto the tail. The head was carved from a separate 10 in cake I had ready "just in case". I just cut a wedge out of the extra cake and carved it as if the point of the wedge were the "snout" of the dragon. Once I had all the pieces ready, I put them together and crumbcoated the whole thing.
Then I used MMF coloured with navy blue and black (left a little marbly)and cut "petal" shapes out using the rose petal cutters and each one was placed individually until the dragon was covered. Remember to place the scales overlapping with the point towards the headI started at the tail and worked my way up the body. The teeth, nails, spikes and wings were all done out of fondant, but if I did another, I'd definately use gumpaste for the wings as they were pretty fragile and didn't get quite hard enough. When that was all done I just drybrushed a bit of silver and blue luster dust on it and covered the cake board with the grass tip.
