I am making the cake for my niece's 1st birthday. I want to spell out her name on the top with cookies. I want cookies that will hold up to icing and inserting sticks and all, but I want the cookies to be soft enough to eat. Any suggestions? Recipes? TIps? Any help or information would be great!

TIA

The no fail sugar cookies on this site are pretty chewy (not your typical crunch cookie - at least in my experience) and they hold up to being on sticks.

If you look for my twins birthday cake that I made last month, you'll see that I put cookies all over it and 'attached' the two cakes together by a rainbow cookie.

I used the roll-out cookie recipe from the wilton year book and attached a couple of sticks to some of them with royal icing after I had finished decorating them.

The cookies were eaten as well as the cake .... hope this helps!
