Hey there, Im new to the board, and would love some advice! I had plans to do a cake for my nephews 2nd birthday, and they just changed the theme on me. The theme is now Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and I cant find any Mickey pans in the stores and its too late to get one online. Any advice or suggestions please! Thanks soo much![/b]

Have you ever done a FBCT (frozen buttercream transfer)? That would work perfectly as you could easily find Mickey Mouse Clubhouse pictures online (check out PlayhouseDisney.com). My kids love the show! HTH. Jodie

here's a little sketch to help make a 3-D version.

base is a 1/2 sports ball or a soccer ball pan (or a 1/2 ball cooked in a pyrex bowl)

foot is either: cut from sheet or a set of small 1/2 balls or round staked and doweled.

riser to head is a un-hidden pillar support or a large dowel...

bottom half of head is half a styrofoam ball.

top half is 1/2 sports ball or ....

(or proportions, I'd do soccer on bottom, 1/2 sports on top)

hand is fondant/gumpaste on pretzel log

ears fondant/gumpaste

connection of foot to base: dowel or un-hidden pillar

for the super smooth look: i'd do whole thing in fondant

Thanks soo much both of you! I would love to do the whole 3D clubhouse, but I am definatly not at that level yet. I am planning on trying the fbct today, and see how that goes. Thanks again!!!

Good luck with the FBCT. I have been addicted to them since I did my first one. Lots of good how-to advice on this site! Jodie

Amazing, Doug!! I might just change DD's 2nd birthday theme from Hello Kitty to Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. She dances every time she hears the music! Hmmm.......less than 5 weeks.......gotta go plan!!

RUN!!! Run as far away from that design as quickly as you can!!!! I have done a very similar design of this cake two times and it is such a pain in the backside. I've never been completely happy with them (which is why you won't see them in my gallery). I literally pulled an all nighter with one! icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif

Sorry, Doug...you know I love ya, but here's the one I'm diggin'

I really wish I could do something 3D like that but I havent used fondant really, so I dont think I could. I have had a really hard time with it the few times I tried. It was the Wilton packaged fondant, maybe its easier to use homemade? I actually love Doug's cake the best and maybe if I had more time to practice but I just dont.

I think I was actually the first to attempt the 3D clubhouse on this site (or at least the first to post a photo - lol) and while challenging, it makes for a great cake. After my first real 3D, I came up with a smaller, simpler design (just modeled fondant to resemble the clubhouse and used it as a topper for a cake). FBCT would certainly work and be very cute for the clubhouse, but 3D is do-able (if I can do it, just about anyone can - I'm certainly no cake whiz!!).

here's my first version:

and my scaled down one:

Good luck!

Hey I don't know if you would be interested in this idea.. but there is a minnie mouse cake on here done by jaklotz1 and she has submitted the howto in this thread

http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopicp-3336893-.html#3336893

I don't see why you couldn't do micky with this.. plus you wouldn't be doing a licensed wilton pan... and it would be more fun and probably feed more people... HTH! Good luck!

P.S. When you click on the link, click on her photos to see the minnie cake, it is precious, she will explain how she does it in the thread icon_smile.gif

mmichelew--Wow!! I love both versions of the MM ClubHouse! After I thought about Doug's drawings, I wondered if RKT would work (or even styrofoam balls). I've only covered a few round cakes in fondant. Do you have any tips for covering odd shapes--like a sphere, half-sphere, or the foot--in fondant?

Don't use Wilton (that's my first tip). Satin ice handles so much better! But the half-sphere was really easy - easier than covering a regular round cake. Sphere was a little more of a challenge (mind you, I have NO fondant tools). After I put a thin layer of BC on the sphere, I lay the fondant on top and just started smoothing. (I actually ended up w/ lots of ugly spots that I had to "doctor" w/ black frosting.) Same deal with the foot - I set the foot on its bottom and lay the fondant on the "toe" and just started smoothing downward. For the hand, I did the fingers separately and then attached w/ skewers while fondant was still pliable and smoothed to cover seams. Wish I had more advice, but I really just "winged" it.

I'm making a 3D Mickey Mouse club house for my granddaughters 2nd Bday, on top of a 10" round, the 6" ball pans are to big, (plus I don't want to buy one!) would a half of big cake ball work?
