Does anyone go by the "cottage industry" standards, instead of having a license?

From what I can gather on the Secr. of State site and the Dept of Agriculture, all that would be required is labeling (though that's a pain, too). At least that would mean you are "legal" without needing to have your kitchen inspected or being licensed, etc.

Am I reading this wrong?? Anyone know? Thanks!

I believe that's correct. I'm in Ohio also and have read several good threads here on the rules for Ohio.

Do a search on this forum for the word "ohio" and several of the threads will come up.

If you find out anything further, please post! icon_smile.gif

hth!

This is true to a certain extent. You can make and sell foods out of your home without the inspection as long as they are not perishable. So no cheesecakes, cream pies, pumpkin or custard pies etc.

You must put your name & address, name of food, label ingredients in order, weight of food & put on the label "This product is home produced"

If you label your business as cottage foods you do not need licenses or inspections, but you are subject to food sampling at any time. You can sell these foods to grocery stores, restaurants, etc.

If you bake and sell perishable foods, etc you need to have an inspector come to your house & pay the yearly registration fee ($10) ...The biggest requirements are that you don't have carpet in the kitchen & no pets. You still have to label the food though.

Hope this helps....here's a link for more info:
