Long story short, this 'friend' from church told me months ago she was going to get me to make her wedding cake. In the meantime, her sister had a baby and I volunteered to make the cake for her baby shower..a 65$ cake free of charge. Well I guess the family must not have liked the cake, 'cause I just found out that the bride to be is getting this other lady in town to make her wedding cake!! She never even said anything to me, I just found out from this other girl in the wedding party that I used to be pretty good friends with.

I know there is nothing I can do, it's not like they're OBLIGATED to get me to make their wedding cake, but I can't help but have hurt feelings. And the fact that it's not even a professional bakery or anything, just another home cake decorator... that really hurts! A professional I could understand, 'cause they would be able to do all the fancy stuff that I can't do yet, but it is just going to be a plain stacked cake with fresh flowers. Dh is even in their wedding, I mean, we are/were pretty close to these people.

Maybe I am being a big baby, but I don't care right now! I just had to vent!

I know your feeling are hurt Melissa .. and rightly so ... just don't take it personal .. you do beautiful work .. it's her loss not to have you make her cake ... you probably would have done a better job and take more personal care to make sure her cake was more than she could have ever expected it to be ... just remember, your cakes are beautiful and you did nothing wrong ... *hugs* icon_smile.gif

You know, you should look at this as a blessing in disguise. You're feelings are important, true, but think about it this way..... now you can just sit back and enjoy the festivities and not have to worry about anything except how your DH looks in his wedding clothes.

melissa I know what you are feeling...I was hoping to have a graduation cake order for you yesterday...I had made plans with the girl whose party it was...and I had even started to make things to put on the cake.. I gave her my prices for 2 different sized sheet cakes (which were quite large)... and she said she would have to run it past her mom and then call me back...she did not call me until the Thursday before (after a gentle reminder call from me) and she told me that she could not order from me because her mom had run out of money (apparently the mom did not budget for stuff properly) and that her mom had gone somewhere cheaper. I was a little hurt because I was really looking foward to doing it, but then I remembered that the girl had wanted me to do the cake because she loved the way my cake tastes. Of course, I still had to make a comment to my husband at the party that my cake would have looked cuter (and more personal). But in the end it worked out because I was able to have an enjoyable weekend with my family, went a field trip with my son on Friday, went to the zoo and a movie with my family on Saturday, and had a relaxing afternoon on Sunday. (the day of the party) The girl was soo happy to see us at the party and was glad that we came and were able to have a good time.
So on the day of that wedding, I say go get yourself pampered, get your hair in an updo, get a pedicure and a manicure, and just enjoy the day.

I know you must be disappointed since you were looking forward to making her cake. I had someone place an order for a wedding cake and then cancelled the order a week before the wedding. They told me they found a family friend that would do it for free! I didn't let it get me down especially since I had taken some other cake orders! Anyway, your cakes are gorgeous...I am sure you will have many wedding cake orders in your future! icon_razz.gif
