I did my parents 50th wedding anniversary cake this past week and I bought new push pillers and new plates for the cake. My problem is that the pillers did not "lock" into the plates and when my parents cut into the second layer, the whole cake nearly fell over.
What happened?

You are supposed to take it apart before cutting.
