I've seen alot of cake pictures on this site that have chocolate icing around the sides of a german chocolate with the coconut/pecan topping on top.

Does it tastes better with the chocolate icing on the sides? I would like to spruce up my german chocolate cake but not sure I should try this technique. I usually just put the coconut/pecan topping on top and b/w the layers with nothing on the sides.

How do you make your german chocolate cakes?

My mother used to make an icing that had marshmallows and evap milk in it. Tastes like fudge.
