I"m fairly new to cake decorating, but I'm making a cake tonight and I'd like to put some grass on it. Which is the best tip to use and is there a certain technique that works better than others? Thanks. Karen
Oh they do they do they....doooo....It is tip number 233 I believe off the top of my head...Makes great grass, hair, and fuzzy furry friends on cakes. If I don't post again to fix it...it is tip 233 of Wilton.
Yes, they do. I'm sorry that I don't know what number it is offhand though. It's flat on top with several round holes in it.
Wilton recommends using tip 233 for grass. I haven't tried this yet but planning to in the next couple of weeks.
So here's another bump because I'd like some pointers also.
Thank you so much! I will go and see if I have that tip, and if not, I'll be making a trip to Michaels.
I have used my grass tip several times. It takes a few times to get the hang of how much pressure to use and when and how to release. I found it easier to pull up and out when you get the length of grass you want. You might even want to add piping gel to the buttercream so that the final tip looks smoother.
i know this is an old thread but i was wondering if michaels has the #233 tip. i always forget to look when i'm there.
I am 99% sure that they don't have it. they don't seem to have a lot of the cool tips!
The Michael's close to me has the grass tip. It does help if you add a bit of piping gel or at least make sure your icing is thin to medium consistency. It's fun once you get the hang of it ( doesn't take long).
i usually do my cakes with whipped cream buttercream so medium consistency wont be a problem. i just hope it wont be a mess , i guess i should get that tip soon and do some practicing. Anyone ever used this icing to do grass?
SO I LOVE THIS TIP!!!
Check out my pic and you can see I use it alot
I got mine at Michaels, in CA.... If I remember correctly you need a big coupler and bag, it is not a typical size tip.
Fun to use!
Good Luck
Hey redsoxgirl....scary cake!!! I think I am going to have nightmares tonight thinking about it! What was that cake for...I mean, it said congratulations...congrats for what?? Very good, by the way!
Tip 233 is my favorite. I love it. I have done short stubbily grass and long grass. People go crazy over how it looks. A must have tip!
