I covered a cake dummy with fondant. Just wondering if I can store it in a covered cake plate or would it get mold or something. Since it looks chocolate, I wanted to keep the dust off for awhile.

Any other tips? I know you can you wall spackle for buttercream.

Thanks!

Jasmine

What did you use on the dummy before covering with fondant? I've used royal icing, let it dry completely, then sand with super-fine sand paper and cover with fondant. Wondering if there's an easier/faster way.

I thought as long as the dummies weren't in direct sunlight, they would be fine? I'm so glad you asked this question - I was just fixing to make some dummies for next month!! Saved me probably hours searching.

I only spritz water or apply a thin coat of piping gel on the dummy before covering with fondant.

Thanks! Do you have any photos that I could see how they turned out?

Jazz:
Been reading through some of the threads and someone wrote in that she puts her dummies in plastic bags sealed good then puts them into a closet out of direct sunlight.

I decorated a few cake dummies in my class in April and they are still ok. I used saran wrap to cover the cake dummy so I can reuse it and sprayed with a little water before applying the fondant.........it still looks like I just make it.

Years ago I heard of a product you could spray on dummy cakes after they were decorated that made it possible for you to wash them in the sink without ruining any of the decorations...I can't for the life of me remember what it's called or where to get it...Anybody?????

Of course...it could have just been a dream...haha

I have just covered dummies for a Wedding Expo (see in my pics Bridal Gown and Spring ) and have put them in a cupboard for safe keeping. I did have one (Paige on my website) that lasted for 3 years placed in this cupboard with only a cover of plastic not sealed and would bring out to show brides. The only problem in the end was that the sugarpaste roses got very brittle but the fondant was still okay. From time to time I would use a soft brush just to give them a light dust. It is a shame to not keep them for as long as you can if you have the room as there is a lot of work that goes into them and you never know when you may need a display cake. I also have chocolate fondant covered dummies that I don't really look after and they have lasted and lasted even after all the knocks and bumps they get. Not keeping them for any particular reason but just in case. No decorations on these though. Good to hear everyones advice.
