I Think I May Have Cracked The Sugarveil Recipe......maybe

OK- so I got bored tonight.... ...DH is out of town.........and I thought I would do a little experimenting. Have been amazed by the wonders of Sugarveil- I have not actually used it so I don't know exactly what it should "feel" like.........BUT I started mixing a few things together- egg whites, cream of tartar, p sugar, gelatin, and melted marshmellows.......kinda cross between fondant and royal.........so I beat all of it together for about 10 minutes, piped some things and am waiting for them to dry. It's been about an hour, and so far so good.....firm but flexible! We will see!
I will definitely be watching to see the results! Sugarveil is something that I am just in awe of but of course don't want to spend the money without using/seeing if it is something I would actually get my money worth.
This will be interesting.

Do a search on Google.......It's pretty amazing stuff! It is firm like royal, but flexible like fondant.......it can be used in the machine that they sell, or piped through a pastry bag using a tip.....I have just recently discovered it, and have been intrigued! I like the idea of it being flexible. I have a wedding cake that I have to do that has a Monogram on a round cake, which is what got me to searching! We will see how this experiment turns out! So far so Good!!!!
big ol' BUMP for redhotmomof3!!!!!!!!!!!!!
she must be busy with her sugarveil knockoff....
OH OH
you know what - there's a question I have about sugarveil anyway. I was on their site and I see you can buy a 1 lb resealable bag of mix for something like...12 dollars...anyone who's used this, can you tell me do you mix with water? I'm assuming since the bag is resealable you can make this in small batches, what is the procedure?
Is it worth the money, just in case redhotmomof3 doesn't get back to us because she's found the secret and is out there making millions right this very moment?
Sorry for taking so long........DH got back into town and cant stand having to share my attention! LOL! He says CC is my "boyfriend"!
OK.......so this is what I learned - this can be frozen or refrigerated when dry without any change whatsoever! Once you pipe your design, it takes about 2-3 hours before it is dry enough to pick it up........it can be applied to the cake then. Or you can let it dry overnight and it will get hard- but not nearly as hard as royal- It will not break your teeth if you try to bite it! LOL! It even tastes pretty good! Once dry, it is no longer flexible. So, it you want to put a design on a round cake, I would do so after 3 or 4 hours-
One more thing.....I kept the leftovers in a container in the fridge, and they firmed up a little bit, but once whipped up again with the mixer, it was the same as it was before! DH is gone again this week, so I'm gonna play some more! I'll let y'all know! Thanks!
I have decided that I like it...from the first click on the web site and looking at the picture of the sugarveil bride. I deem it a gift from the sugar gods.
I'm with you Dale! I guess until I can convince DH that it is a good "investment" - I will have to use my knock off! LOL! Hey Dale- maybe he would believe it if he heard it from another man.......wontcha talk to him for me?
Sounds intriguing! I love the idea of how it works. Keep us posted and hopefully you will share your recipe!?

Just show him the half naked lady getting painted with the icing...tell him you'll need his help with the experimenting...he'll get right down to business...uh...cake business I mean.
Oops! Sorry crp7- thought I had done that- must have been on another forum! Here it is.......
3 egg whites
1Tbsp Cream of Tartar
2lbs Powder Sugar
1 pkg Gelatin (dissolved in a little bit of water)
2 cups MM (melted)
I mixed the first 3 ingredients together for 10 minutes as if making royal........then added the Gelatin, then the Marshmellows..........beat until it is stiff enough to pipe ( maybe 5 more minutes or so)
Try it and see what you think!
My sis brought her surag veil stuff when she visited last month. Boy, that air pen works slick. I'd love to have one, but will hold off till I'm doing more cake business. The thing about using the gun is the work it saves your hands. You hold it like a pen and control it with your index finger over the hole that regulates the flow. Super easy! You just develope a feel for it like anything else. Wish she lived closer so I could play with it on one of my projects. I played with it using colored piping jel so can't comment on the sugarveil itself but I am sure impressed with what I see on their site.
Red hot....I am going to try your recipe...thanks....I'll post my results....
BUT...
I just want to say, that amazing as they make it seem...Sugarveil did not work for me. I have posted this before. I think I'm pretty capable in the kitchen. I bought the powder, followed instructions to a tee, 3 times. I kept getting a very frothy liquid that actually turned yellow in the bag after a day.
I wrote to the company and they suggested I tried again. I did....and I was very careful....no dice.
I have read forums where people have had success....maybe it was me? Maybe I got a bad batch? Who knows....but this was my experience.
Adven68- I hate it did not work for you...That would be my luck too! I have not used the Sugarveil personally, so I can't say for sure this is the same thing (or even close to it) I did have to beat it for 10 minutes, then after I added the Gelatin and MM - for another 5 minutes......It came out so fluffy! Try this and let me know how it works for ya! Good Luck!
Adven68, I just looked at your photos again and cannot imagine what you might do with sugar veil. Your work is amazing!! I am very taken with the detail work on your rocking horse christening cake. Wow!
Hey adven68 (The Painted Eye) ~ I'm with CarolAll ~~~~~WOW!!!
Everyone ought to check out her website too! She has AMAZING talent!
I think the sugar veil looks neat too, but I"m not quite sure what you would do w/ it - sure you can make a doily-looking thing and put it over the top of the cake.... but what else can you do? I saw the wedding dress and yeah that's awesome, but I don't think I'll be making one of those any time soon......
You could use it on a wedding cake to recreate any embroidery patterns that may be on the bride's wedding dress. It would probably be way better for detail then royal icing. Not to mention you could make it on a fondant drape and not worry about it cracking off.
Hi Everyone,
I ordered the sugarveil system yesterday, looking forward to trying it out.
Make a big lace sheet out of it and put it over your head. Run around and say "I'm a Sugar Woman! Eat me."

I bet you would be the first person to jump in and take care of eating her
