ANo. It doesn't have the flexibility. Sugar veil is very flexible and moves like plastic.

Hi I have a home made sugar veil recipe!

You can increase the amount of ingredients if you need more of it.

Here goes..

1 Tbsp Tylose

1/4 cup BOILING Water

1Tbsp confectioner sugar

2 level tbsp corn starch

1/4 tsp meringue powder/egg white powder

1/2 tsp. corn syrup

Pinch of white icing color or one of your choice color

Add Tylose to boiling water and with a small fork mix until you get a clear mixture.

When mix is clear, add confectioner sugar and mix, then add your cornstarch and mix again.  Add the meringue powder and mix again.  Then add your corn syrup.

Add coloring after this has been mixed.

this mix can be kept in the refrigerator for a week.  To work with it leave it at room temperature.  Once you have made the lace, you can store it in a plastic zip lock bag.

To restore the elasticity, just place a damp kitchen towel on top, but not too long... keep checking it.

Good Luck!!!! :)

This is the same recipe that Joan Pinto in Venezuela teaches!!!....

He is an Amazing teacher and Cake Decorator professional!!... I love all his classes...

the difference is that he use Glucose instead of corn syrup, and the merengue powder is not the same amount if you change it for egg whites...

I can tell that this recipe works perfectly!!!...

HTH...   :)

I did make it, this past week, and used it for my hubby's birthday.  He requested a cheesecake!  I used the sugar veil mold of course.

This turned out perfectly!

so I take it you use this with the sugarveil molds or mats. I guess we have to order those on line because I didn't see it in the stores here where I live. I am anxious to try this. Thanks for sharing.

Yes you can use the molds, I ordered mine from over seas, and they are TONS cheaper here at this ladies Etsy store.  I got this mold, and the rose lace mold.  They look like the same as sugar veil molds.  They took a couple weeks to get, but they are perfect.

This looks great! Can you tell me if your version is able to be piped? I have a custom design that I need to pipe and be flexible. I have ordered some actual SugarVeil, but wanted to practice with something before it gets here.

Can sugarveil be used on buttercream iced cakes instead of fondant? I don't do fondant yet,but I love the lace look.

I am not too sure, however you would think that the buttercream would be a bit too "wet" for the sugar veil.  I would not suggest it, as too much water or moisture on the

sugar veil will melt it.

Was it easy to use?  I've heard the sugarveil is very difficult and I'm wondering how often you've used it before?

SugarVeil IcingYes, you can use SugarVeil on any surface - with a moist fingertip, dampen a few places on the back of the SugarVeil decoration, and it will adhere to any surface.

This is the reply from sugarveil posted to me on facebook.

AI just tried the recipe posted by DawnEdwards. I didn't have any Tylose powder so I substituted vegetable gum powder that I had & left everything else the same. Not successful, had to throw it all out. Anyone else having luck with the recipe? Thx

I did try it but I ended up using a little more water.  The consistency just didn't seem right.  I used it with an inexpensive mat that I purchase from wholeport and it did work.  The first time I put too much on the mat and was impatient so it didn't come out too well.  I tried it a second time using much less and letting it dry a bit and it came out pretty good.  Didn't use it on anything.  It was just a test.

Always try a recipe the way it was written before giving up on it!  You changed the recipe, so thats why it didn't work.  Get some tylose powder and try again :)

Are you able to use any kind of silicone mat with this recipe or just the sugar veil?  If not, can anyone recommend mats that will work with it?  Thanks!
