i made my first really pretty(a little lopsided. lol) cake for the 4th of july, turned out great.(i just posted it yesterday, and im so proud.pic doesnt do it justice.(1st fondant cake)lol) my aunt was so impressed she wants me to make a cake for my cousins wedding in december. she wants a superman cake, and i can do that w a bct. but i also thought it would be nice to make an elegant cake as well. is there a rule about the grooms cake and can you have more than one, or is this faux pas? i want to make it look really nice as i love cake decorating and am hoping that if i do this for her i can gain experience as well as requests from other people to make cakes for them as well....

Why don't you do a square or round cake...ice it in chocolate buttercream or ganache & drip chocolate down the sides...then on top do the bct of the superman logo & do choc dipped strawberries around the sides. Then its still elegant without having to do 2 cakes. But I don't think 2 cakes is a faux pas...I think as long as the bride & groom are fine with it then go for it.

if you search the galleries...you see that when it comes to groom's cakes the only rule seems to be:

there are no rules

they run the gamut from elegant to "Okay...and what was that couple thinking!!!!?!????!!!!!"

and as for two...

again .. no rules

so have fun, make two

(funny thought....image of superman on balcony about to launch into flight....but...Lois Lane holding onto his cape --- "No ya don't flyboy...you still have your "honey-do" list to finish!"

lol. thanks. as im still new at this im not up on a lot of the ettiqute.lol. i like the idea of doing the elegant+superman. but i may also make 2 cakes.i just want it to be perfect. he is my cousin after all. i just know ive seen the pics of the mutiple cakes where each onne is one a tier at a different level, i thought that was pretty too. with the two cakes i was wanting to do a stages of life thing, like the superman would be the "before amrriage" and the elegant would be the "after" marriage. is this dumb? i just know you guys have a lot more experience with this stuff than i do...im open to ideas. lol birthday.gifdunce.gif

Are they serving the superman cake at the reception? You may want to consider doing the other elegant one for the rehersal dinner or something like that. The only reason I say that is because even though there are no rules, you don't want to take attention away from the actual "brides" or wedding cake, and I think that two grooms cakes may do that. Unless of course you've run this by the couple. We had this suggested sometimes when parents were surprising their son, and couldn't decide, but we always said that one for the rehersal and on at the wedding. That way all the cakes get the attention they deserve. Just a thought.
