But it's failing me tonight... icon_cry.gif
I am trying to 1/2 this recipe

http://www.cakecentral.com/cake_recipe-2055-1-No-Fail-Sugar-Cookies.html

which I can do very easily... BUT my problem then comes into play when I want to figure out the recipe in weight. I got a scale for mothers day and can not, for the love of me, figure out what half of this recipe would be. How much does 3 cups of flour weigh? And so on...

Can anyone help me? I really don't know why I can't get it. icon_rolleyes.gificon_redface.gif

Sometimes it is a lot harder than just dividing in half, especially when you are converting from cups to grams, so don't feel bad! It happens to the best of us. I use this site often, it has a lot of great conversion information, especially helpful in using european recipes. It does require a free signin name though

1 cup sifted cake flour is equal to 3.5 oz.
1 cup unsifted cake flour is equal to 4 oz
1 cup sifted all purpose flour is equal to 4 oz
1 cup unsifted all purpose flour is equal to 4.4 oz

Hope that helps! Good luck icon_smile.gif

1 c. butter = 1/2 lb or 2 sticks

Need anything else?

A cup of all purpose flour weighs 4 oz.
A cup of granulated sugar weighs 8 oz.
A 1/2 cup of butter weighs 4 oz.

I recently completed a cooking class. Our Chef instructor said there's no real way to know for sure what 3 cups of anything (dry mixture) weighs. He strongly suggested placing your mesuring vessel on the scale, adjust the needle icon_wink.gif back to 0 and start measuring out your ingredients.

Since flour is lighter in weight than cane sugar, this is the best way to gauge what you need going forward. Good luck. You can do it!
