I was wondering...when you keep your cake money seperate from you "regular" money. Do you only buy supplies with the cake money? DH and I disagree on this because I want to use the money for other things as well, why else am I working. But he says it should only be for supplies and appliances that it takes its toll on. For example, I am in the need of a new stove but we don't have the money right now. I have a wedding in July and that will more than pay for one. Now, he says it's okay to use the money for that. But not okay to use the money to take a little "holiday". What do you think? By the way...I'm not licensed so this is just considered a hobby.

In my opinion, cake supplies should only be bought with cake money....period... but I think that it is perfectly fine to use the cake money for other items as well. Alot of us do the cakes so we can have that extra spending money (along with the fact that it's fun!).

What does he think you should be doing with the extra, if you don't mind me asking?

Most of mine goes to Target! LOL! I do try to buy cake supplies with cake money, but I use it for groceries, clothes, or whatever else we need!

I re-read my post, and it confused even me! ,What I meant was I think only cake money should be used for cake supplies, if at all possible. But the excess profit from the cake money can definitely be used for other things. I totally agree with peacock in every aspect, except I think Target stinks...it's all about walmart!!!! icon_biggrin.gificon_lol.gif

i use cake money to buy cake goodies and supplies, then i also try to save some to put in a vacation fund, to help with our vacation this summer. if you cant spend your money on something fun, why make it? okay, my husband very much disagrees on that!!!!!!!!!! but he is okay with me helping pay for vacation. i dont get alot of orders, but some extra money here and there.
tell hubby thumbsdown.gif haha

I just recently opened my own "cake" account, and have decided that I will "pay" myself a certain percentage of each order, and do what I please with it. However, if you need a new stove/oven, perhaps you should put at least 1/2 of your money towards it, as you will be using it to bake your cakes.

I wanted to create a "cake account" but my DH says just to save the receipts and total them and then adjust my checking acct accordingly. This seems like too much of a hassle to me!

He also thinks that since he helps deliver them and carry the heavy ones, that he gets 50% of the profits! icon_lol.gif

I am still using all money for all things, but try to save some for our vacation fund. But I will still go shopping for myself once in a while because after all, I do 98% of the work! thumbs_up.gif

LMAO@the Men,, If they ONLY KNEW! hehehe, mine is really great about it. If I have a cake order I take out all my supplies that I have to buy then the rest is profit. I usually buy something new for my hobby and then tuck the rest away for a rainy day =0) I also take some out when I find mixes on sale, then I go buy as many as the store will let me on my most popular mixes =0) But,, if I were in need of an oven I would put the money toward it if we didnt have the extra to buy it.

I think you should use your cake money for whatever you want or need. Once I purchase supplies the rest is profit for me..... I guess it would depend on what level of business you're on. If you are a home baker I defintely say spend it at your discretion.
