Do you use the the same cookie cutter on the MMF to get it to fit perfectly over the cookie?

Can someone please explain???

Thanks

Yep, just use the same cutter.

Depending on your cutter and recipe, the cut fondant may not fit exactly. It usually looks fine. One thing I did in a pinch, I just rolled out fondant in a general shape, placed it over the cookie and pinched off the excess. It molds the the side of the cookie just fine. For wedding cake shapes, I wraped it over the edges and cut it at the base-a completely covered surface-for a different look.

icon_confused.gif You bake your cut out cookies, let them cool, roll out your MMF, cut it with the same cookie cutter that you used for the cookies, then lay the cut out piece of MMF on the cookie (you can use a little brushed on water to make it stick to the cookie). icon_confused.gificon_lol.gif

Hope that helped! thumbs_up.gif

I have a question on this subject, too...the only fondant I've used is Wilton's, which I only use for molding decorations, etc. I think it tastes awful.

Anyway, I have a 17 dozen cookie order and I would like to save some time on them, so rather than doing a base coat of royal icing, waiting for it to dry and then doing the details, I'd like to cover them in MMF. Can anyone recommend a GOOD recipe for homemade fondant that tastes good on the cookies and won't disappoint a customer whose had royal icing on cookies before? I'd appreciate ANY help!

Use the MMF recipe on this site - it's really good and easy to make.

I am wondering how to "stick" royal icing on top of MMF cookies - I made some ornaments on top and after a day they will fall out.Any suggestions?

I put MMF on the cookies hot out of the oven. It requires a bit of prep as you have to cut out all your fondant shapes BEFORE you start doing the cookies, but once you start baking, it all goes very fast. You can decorate as soon as the cookies are cool. Also, since cookies spread a bit during baking, by putting the MMF on while hot, you can pat down the edges of the MMF shape to fit the cookie, as the MMF will be soft and pliable.

BTW, no extra liquid or "glue" is necessary when doing this, as the heat melts the mmf...

I did this for the first time last night (I'm decorating my first cookies ever!), and it worked really well.

As mentioned, have to be organised, but I didn't experience any problems doing it this way.

Now I just need to finish them off tonight when the children are in bed!

Use royal icing to stick your royal icing ornaments on top of the MMF covered cookie.

Can you decorate the cookie right away after you put on the MMF?

I am planning on making some cookie bouquets for teachers-

I put mmf on my cookies sometimes and then I decorate them with royal icing. I did some cute lady hat cookies in my pics that I covered with mmf and then decorated with RI. Thanks "cryssi" for that oven tip! I am definately doing that one next time! icon_smile.gif
