Hey all! I had truly hoped not to have to post in this area again..but...
I have a pirate's chest cake due tomorrow for an actual paying customer. I got the whole thing put togetherand wasn't thrilled with the way the lid looked because I'd trimmed it too much. I decided I'd decorate the cake to see if it looked okay..and it did look okay, but I wasn't happy with it. I want to wow them, ya know?
I had to go out to Target to get a cake mix and when I got home, the cake top had cracked down the middle and had started to crack down the back. too. My new cake top is cooking now and I"ve removed the bad cake but I'm nervous about this. I did dowel the cake so maybe I didn't give it enough support? I cut out the middle a bit to sit the jewels and stuff on and I"m thinking I should not have made the cutout around the back section since its going to help support the top..that part started to collapse a bit. Sheesh!
Anyway..that's my story..I'm miffed and nervous that this thing is going to fall apart on this poor child who's getting it!!

Thanks for the support..I am very happy to say that the cake has reached its destination in one piece!! My friend seemed to be blown away when she saw the cake; that made me feel very happy! She said I should have charged her sister $100 instead of what I charged her. Hopefully, they'll all enjoy the cake now that its there safe and sound icon_smile.gif

Thanks! Got the idea from other cakes on this site..
I spoke to my friend today and she said the back fell off the cake after a little while. I offered to refund her money, but she said it was fine and was delicious. Makes me feel kind of bad, though. I think I'll definitely try making the lid with Rice Krispies treat next time..
