Do you have to use a dense cake for ganache?

Just wondering if this is like fondant and you need a dense cake to hold extra weight or not. Also I found a great link that explains how to make ganache and how to apply it! http://www.ladycakes.com/forum/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=172767&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1

Ganache really isn't any heavier than all the icing that goes on a cake so I'd say no...don't need a dense cake.

Just saw this Kristy~

You don't need a dense cake. A lot of people say you also need to ice the cake first before putting your ganache on. I have made 3 ganache cakes & they were fine w/out icing & really tasty! I haven't decorated a ganache cake yet because it doesn't last long in our house!
