I want to make my wedding cake for course 3 class covered in brown fondant with a pink fondant "ribbon" around the bottom of each tier and also with pink fondant roses.. My dilema is today i recieved my americolor colors and I ordered the chocolate. Well i mixed it in bc just a bit too see how brown it cake out it wasen't dark it was light. Do you guys just keep adding to it or is there some other color that i need to use with this chocolate brown to get that dark brown look such as the cake i attached .
Also should i give it a bead border if i'm using a pink fondant ribbon and if so do you think it should be in brown or pink?

the dark chocolate brown fondant you see on many cakes is actually chocolate fondant that you buy premade. it is already that nice dark chocolate brown when you buy it so there is no color adding necessary.

there are many online suppliers that carry it if you don't have a cake store nearby that stocks it.

I have painted brown on to fondant before - see the picture of my doctor's bag to see what it looks like.

i'm glad i came accross this post. Tonight i'm going to try to make chocolate fondant. hopefully it comes out well. i wonder if doing a chocolate fondant and adding a bit more of brown color would work?!
This is also for my course 3 cake, but i'm not making a package.

I've colored small amounts of gumpaste dark brown by kneeding in brown and black paste color, but it takes A LOT of color (and extra powdered sugar to even out the liquid in the color).
I'd either use chocolate fondant and add more brown/black to get the desired color or spray the fondant after it's on the cake.
If you want to make your own I recommend Rhonda's Chocolate MMF, it comes out medium brown, you can add color while mixing to make it darker (and it's incredibly yummy!)

that's the recipe i plan on using tonight. my only problem is not able to find dutch processed (or dark chocolate-powdered) in stores. icon_cry.gif
so i'm going to try w/the regular Hershey's one.

I used the regular Hersey's and it came out fine, though I'd like to try it with the dark cocoa if I can find it.

I use cacao powder in my MMF. If you use a lot you get it pretty dark. I mix it in before the powdered sugar.
