I need some more ideas for a baby shower cake to feed 30 people. She wants Italian cream & pooh on it. I was thinking of doing something different than the reg, boring old 1/2 sheet cake. I want to try a tiered cake, maybe round...yeah. I saw a cake with a moon & a baby & thought I could put a plastic pooh or something in place of the baby. I don't know can u help w/ some ideas?

Also, not sure what to charge? Thinking I should raise my prices a little anyway. Help please!

I like the 2 tier idea with the plastic pooh on top. Do you know if it is for a boy or girl? You could decorate each tier differently with pink or blue. For a stacked cake like this...I would charge 50.00. Hope that helps.

Thanks, for your input. What if they didn't ask for that, so far I know she wants it to feed 30, but I haven't spoken to her to get more info yet. we missed each others calls. I was just thinking on my own that I wanted something different. I don't know that she'd pay $50 for it. I am so scared to charge alot for a cake ($40 & over), maybe they won't wanna buy one from me. They may think it's too much & decide to go to walmart or HEB. I know I should start charging those prices, but will they buy? I don't know? I just need to get over it & not be scared to say what I really wanna charge. I mean I take my time, it's a lot of work what I do, I make mine fresh & any flavor, the icing is homemade, u know? The other bakeries just do simple basic stuff. Sorry to go on & on, just needed to get it out. My hubby was also telling me today that I'm not making any money with this. But I lOVE making cakes!!! icon_biggrin.gif Oh, your from Houston? I live near Houston!! Cool!!

they gotta realize they are paying for homemade cakes and extra special attention given to every item. I know it is scary when you feel unsure to start asking more than walmart but I am sure a BAD homemade cake is wayyyyyyyy better than a good grocery store one...I charge 40+ for my simple1/2 sheet cakes, and special designs no less than 50. something like the girl babyshower cake i have listed here I charge 110 for. I dont touch a wedding cake for less than 150. something like the bra & panties cake I have in the gallery i charged 65 for.slowly you will get the confidence to start charging what you are worth..but I did a lot of freebies and near freebies first..lol

Hi Lizzie. I know how you feel. I still go through that too. However, I realize that people do expect to pay more for my cakes than a store bought one. I too make mine fresh and add lots of little details that they do not get from the store. As for your ideas on the baby shower cake...I would do what you think would look good. You are the decorator and know what will look the best. I have done my own ideas many times and people loved it! Then in return, they passed my number on to other people. I can't tell you how many repeat customers I have! I think you are doing a great job! thumbs_up.gif
