i honestly like it, it's pretty ok for being ur first time !!!
i think the lumps have something to do with the crumbles and the smoothness of the cake underneath ... u should've seen my father's day cake it was so disappointing !!! but my DH loved his cake(mostly the taste) although he said it was pretty ! LOL

Hello
This is your first attempt!?.. you are off to a good start. You know all it takes is a bit of practice to make it perfect. So keep it up.

I learned this from my cake instructor
You may need to open up your tip, use a icing spatula to open the edges a little then try your leaves.

Let me know if this works.

You are WAY TO HARD on yourself!!! Your cake is very good especially since it is your first attempt. Ditto on opening up the tip. Also, I will often "shape up" my leaves by putting a little 10X on my fingers and pinching the ends of the leaves together.

What tip did you use for the leaves? I use 352 and I don't have to worry about opening up the end of the tip... they come out beautiful everytime ...

remember with fondant, any flaws in your cake icing before you apply the fondant will show through on your cakes .. I think you did a great job for your first try!! You're off to a great start!!

icon_smile.gif Hey, it doesn't look bad at all. Regarding the problem with your tip, I've taken 4 different cake decorating classes (4 lessons each). and each instructor said they don't like tip #67 because of this problem. I TOTALLY AGREE so I use tip 352 99% of the time like the other lady mentioned.

Regarding the smoothness of your fondant, did you use a Fondant Smoother? It works really nicely. Don't give up, each cake that follows will turn out better than the one before. You'll be a pro in no time.
