I currently bake and sell drop cookies. I sell most of them for $7 a dozen but some I sell for $10 a dozen (the ingredients are more exspensive). I am trying to branch out into cupcakes and decorated sugar cookies too but I need more practice on my decorating techniques. Anyway, I also make gourmet caramel/chocolate covered apples, which I have previously not charged for. I've made them for family and friends as gifts. Well they all keep telling me that I should start selling them also. I would really have no idea how much to sell them for. I don't have any pictures, but to give you an idea I usually get fairly large granny smith apples, coat them with caramel and then with chocolate, then from there I might coat them with nuts, toffee chips, crushed oreos or drizzle them with white or dark chocolate. I'm guessing that it probably costs me about $2-$3 an apple to make, depending on whether or not I use nuts. I also try to use the best chocolate I can find in the grocery store (usually Ghiradelli or Lintz) and Kraft caramels. Now should I double the what ingredients cost and charge that much? Honestly $4-$6 an apple seems like alot to me, but then I was looking on-line and couldn't find any place that charged less then $15 an apple, with most being around $20!!! Now I definitely wouldn't charge that much, but it does make me feel better about the $4-$6. Does that sound like a reasonable price or do you think I should start using cheaper chocolate and charge less?

until you have your apples out there for awhile and you develop a following, I would charge $5.00 a piece. It may not cover all ingredients PLUS the labor but I don't think people would start out paying more. Make sure your packaging is really attractive also. Packaging can make all the difference in the world. I think your apples sound awesome! With autumn just around the corner, it would be a wonderful time to begin selling them!
