about 70-80 people. She also wants carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. I was thinking I could do the base as carrot and the actual castle with the sugar cone idea.
Here's a link to some great castle cakes. To get the sand castle look you could add light brown sugar to your cake.

You could go to a bookstore and take a look at the Colette Peter's wedding cake book. She has an amazing sea-type wedding cake. Complete with sugar coral and shell, but no sandcastle. Might be something to check out if you're interested in adding some of those "extras" to it. They looked real.
Wow, that wedding cake wonders.com sure has some beautiful cakes! Some good ideas and examples there! Janice
Wonders for sure! I love 319. That would make an awesome sandcastle. I wonder if the towers are cake? Maybe cardboard? If I ever make a castle, that's the one I'll make. Doesn't look too hard either.
I don't know, Lisa, the towers are so tall in 319, if they are cake I wonder how they support themselves? They almost have to be something else, maybe pvc pipe, although that would make the whole cake very heavy...more than likely the cardboard tubes you'd use for mailing posters, etc.
I love the ones with the stairs, how would you make those? The most obvious answer would be fondant, but it would intimidate me some to try to attach them to the cake! Janice
I think you're right...cardboard. Looks like a tiered cake just surrounded by cardboard tubes of different sizes.
Here's a pic of a sandcastle wedding cake I came across. It really looks like a sandcastle!

WOW!!! Lisa.... that really does look like a sand castle....I love that....and it doesn't look like it would be that hard to make..... a square cake on the bottom....and you smaller rounds for the castle part.... and cut little square pieces of cake for the crown molding around the tops.... cute idea they had with this one...
Happy baking

Just a thought.... but are all those square pieces sugar cubes??? That cake is so cute!
I'm wondering what all that stuff is that looks so much like sand? Fine, tinted sugar maybe?
I'm going to PM you a photo my Pastry Dept. at work did of an amazing sandcastle wedding cake last year. (It's not all my work, so I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post it here!!)
