posting $$ sold along w/pics

Could it be suggested that along with the pictures, the price it was sold for be posted too? Maybe add if it was discounted or not. Optional, of course.
I understand "different locations, different prices" but many of us struggle with the pricing issue. For some it might give the confidence to ask for more, others a rough point of reference or just satisfy our curiosity.
I think a lot of us can decide on a per slice price but get lost adding in extras and this would be helpful.
Often I see someones work and I just wonder..."mmm...what did they ask for that".

Also pricing is not just based on location but ingredients! You can always Pm I guess to find out?

I realize there are many variables involved in pricing but those are things to be considered when we go to other websites and check out what they charge.
Sometimes I think "No way I could get those prices!..they start at $8 a slice" but it still seems helpful to me because I start thing..."well if mine start at $3...and then i do this...mmm....maybe I could get..."
And then again often I am just curious!

I could see that helping a lot of people out. A lot of people don't sell their stuff, but if they so & are willing to share that info I think it is a good idea.

If the prices were with the picture, there would still need to be a through description of the cake so you could understand the cost.

One of the problems I see with this is Brides coming on to look for ideas! That could be really problematic for their cake person especially if they charge more.

I think it's a great idea if people are willing to share that information. Of course there will be those who won't want to divulge that info. for different reasons. icon_wink.gif

Peronally, I think that would be really interesting! However, I see too many problems with it. I agree with marthajo1 about setting expectaions for customers, and with moydear77 about having to post quite a bit of detail to justify your pricing.

In addition, I think it would make people feel badly. Those who just can't charge high-end prices would feel bad (I see posts all the time about how people feel they undervalue their time) and those who do charge high-end prices might feel strange seeing that their customers might be able to get a cake for half the price they charge from someone else...

I know this is the trickiest thing, and that knowledge and sharing it with others are powerful! But this knowledge is just better obtained through doing research on your own- in your area, online, and by doing the math about what you spend on ingredients and what your time is worth. After you use that info to set your pricing, if someone's willing to purchase your cakes at that price- you did good! If you feel like too many people are walking away because of pricing- you know what to do.

Sorry for the long rant, but I just don't think it's a good idea for all of us to post prices, though we should all feel free to PM the creators to ask what/if they charged!

I think a lot of people who are looking for cake ideas (ie- brides) become members so they can look at the photos bigger. As a new decorator who doesn't sell cakes I would love to know what people charged for a cake but....

I think it would be a good idea if it was in a format where members only could view it, however, any bride could become a member and see it. I know it would be helpful to us though.

I would have to totaly agree with albumangel on this one. I think there are too many factors to pricing a cake for it all to be posted on every cake. Plus there is that good point of brides becoming members just so they could see the cakes. If they find prices, that could cause problems for their decorators, because the brides would not know to take into concideration the location, detail and supplies. Decorators would have to justify their prices. I do think it's a great idea if a fellow decorator PM'd another one to ask if they'd be willing to let them know what they charged for a particular cake. Any help is appreciated to those of us struggling with pricing.

My pricing is on my website, if anyone wants to know. A flat rate per person. Just do the math.
