I've been in business for just over a year. Things are going pretty well and I have steady business. So far, though, I've put every penny back into the business so that I can continue to grow it and not have to worry if I have enough money in my business account to pay bills and buy supplies, etc. It's also allowed me to donate cakes and desserts because I've got the extra money. My question is-when do you know it's time to pay yourself? I have to admit it's getting pretty old working this hard and not getting paid for it! Also, how do you know how much to pay yourself?

Good question I'm in the same boat. Anyone have the answer to all this work.

I do the thirds. One third of what money I get in pays costs of making cakes etc, one third goes to future development eg cake tins I want, and final third goes to ME! (then again am married to accountant, so actually goes to homeloan.)

..... or occasionally when he's not looking... to ME!!

I decide what I need to cover costs, bills, a few extra supplies, and a little padding in the bank. Then I write myself a check.
