I made this ball but no matter how hard I tried the more I added it became messier. I studied a real ball. Then in the end I decided I should have used larger hexagons and pentagons. Does any one know the solution for fondant.
I liked the idea but it certainly did not work well......

What are you talking about? I think that cake looks GREAT!!!
I think we are just too hard on ourselves I have been so frustrated I have cried over cakes, and when I finally deliver the cake everyone has nothing but ooh and ahhs to say (then I feel dumb for stressing so much). I am learnging to be a little more forgiving to myself. One cake instructor told me you know its wrong because you know what it's supposed to look like but no one else will notice, and I believe that is true it's happened to me so many times. So be a little bit easier on yourself you did a great job.

You did a great job! You're too hard on yourself, but I think that all of us in this profession are. We see imperfections that others won't. Relax! This cake is sure to be a hit! Great job!

I think your soccer ball looks great. When tiling a cake, which is basically what you did, the medium sized pieces are much easier and quicker to tile than smaller or generally larger pieces (if on a curved surface). HTH.

The ball does look great!
If the tiling of the hexagons is a problem, I believe the way around it is to use a larger black one and slightly smaller white ones and then they fit around in the circle from the black better.
Does this make sense?
I did one and had trouble fitting all the white ones around each black one and read somewhere that this was the solution.
Haven't had time to try again yet though.
Hope that helps.
