I wanted to enter a couple of cakes into the County Fair and the theme this year is: Pig Squeals & Ferris Wheels.

Well, I know what I am doing with the pigs, (thanks to a Debbie Brown book), but I am having a heck of a time figuring out a ferris wheel for the background. If I make it out of fondant, how do I get it to stay up? I definitely want to go 3-D.

Any suggestions on how to create one?

I sure hope next year's fair theme is Mountain Flowers! LOL!!!!

I appreciate all the help I can get!

Thanks!!!

OMG i would be so afraid to move something like that..... Even if it would be really really cool!

Is it possible to do a Round cake and stand it up on edge and decorate like ferris wheel? could carve some spots out as needed.

Hey! I like the cookie idea. Maybe just use triangle cookie cutters to cut out the cookie not needed and go from there. Kewl!! Thanks!

Still welcoming ideas!!!!!!!!!!

Squealing pigs riding on the Ferris Wheel?

That would be cute.

We have a large fair going on around us now and they have racing pigs. You could do the pigs racing around a track with the ferris wheel in the background. Ferris out of cookie sounds good or even rice krispie treats, although that could get on the heavy side.
Please, animal lovers..don't write me about the cruelty of letting pigs race!! I didn't even watch it this year. icon_smile.gif

On page 7 of the 1998 Wilton Yearbook there is a Ferris Wheel complete with royal icing clowns hanging from it.

Replace those clowns with cute squealy pigs and I think you'll have a winner!

I don't particularly like the cake they put the ferris wheel on but you could do something much better I am sure. It has complete directions for making the ferris wheel from cake boards, dowels, the tall tier center column, etc...

Jorre, you said, "On page 7 of the 1998 Wilton Yearbook there is a Ferris Wheel complete with royal icing clowns hanging from it."

Is there any way you can scan that picture? I would love to see it. I don't have that yearbook.

It sound like a great idea.

DH banished my scanner to the attic. I do have a digital camera, let me see if I can take a picture of it for you.
