I just did my first buttercream transfer today...actually, I had to send my hubby to the store for butter and since it is a Holiday here in Canada today, the store was all out of butter, so he brought home margarine! Well, I had to have a kinder grad cake done for tommorow, so I decided to try it anyway. It turned out pretty good and the taste wasn't too bad.

Thanks to cali4dawn again for the great tutorial, I was very happy with the way my first attempt went.

By the way, Gotcake, if you see this, I had to go a simpler route with the teddy picture, but I'm keeping the other teddy for when I get more accomplished! Thanks again!

Great job! Can I ask you, how long did it take to do the transfer? I tried my first one today and it was a fraction of the size of your teddy bear and it seemed to take quite a while. What size tip did you use? Can you use larger tips when you are working with such a large area that needs to be filled in - like the brown of your bear?

I used a fairly small tip and my hands were hurting just after a few minutes.

Excellent job!!!!!!!!!

You can use larger tips. Your hands might have hurt because you used the Wilton icing in the tubes. Sometimes that stuff is so stiff and it takes a lot of pressure. That may have been why it came out a bit wormy too. I've found that if you pop that stuff in the micro for a few secs it flows like cream and can be used to fill in designs. Don't overheat though or it will melt through your outline.

Aha, we have another mother-daughter team with us! I think that is great, to be able to enjoy the same things!

The bear is very cute, and turned out very well. My first BCT so far was also my last, but you all are encouraging me to try it again with your successes.

Great BCT!! I have finally figured it out a week ago! Now that's all I want to do on the cakes I make! I use regular BCI when I do mine. I have to just use crisco & no butter because it's too humid where I live. The transfer melts way too fast to use butter. They are so fun to do! One day I'll get brave enough & freehand a transfer...... we'll see.
Again, great job on your's!

Thanks everyone for the comments! icon_smile.gif I enjoyed this experiment! It was fun doing such a cute project. I hope the kids like it. I agree - I want to do all my cakes this way too!

I used a tip # 4 for the outline, then filled with tip # 6 - if I'd had a bigger one (my next up is #12) I would have used a bigger one.

It was a thing of beauty, fasted decorating I've ever done, with my handy dandy icer tip and then plunk the BCT on the top, little bit of border - DONE! If you haven't tried doing one yet, go for it!

I think you did a great job! I love teddy bears, so I am biased. But I am glad that you love the BCT(MCT) as much as I do. I think that is the best trick I have learned with decorating!! I am sure that the kiddies will absolutely love it!!

LOL well as you can see by my pictures I'm not much of the team. When people tell me how great her cake making is I have to agree but I always add that "I made her"!

GREAT JOB ON THE CAKE. I AM GOING TO ATTEMPT MY FIRST BCT THIS WEEKEND. MY DAUGHTER WANTS A BRATZ DOLL TO GO ON A CUPCAKE CAKE. THIS WILL BE A FIRST IN BOTH FOR ME. I AM KINDA NERVOUS BUT I WILL TRY. HOPEFULLY IF ALL GOES WELL I WILL POST A PICTURE.
