I have an order for a wedding cake and they want the fountain plus I am doing a cake next month and they also want the fountain so I am purchasing the fountain. I see on the matrix on this site they charge $59.00 rental for the fountain! Is that right???? I was going to charge $20. If you don't mind saying, pleasea advise how much you charge for rental of fountain and if you charge rental for column and cake plates.

Thanks!!

Im not sure about the costs for hire, but make sure you get a refundable deposit. On two occassions i've leant out stands for cupcake cakes, the second time i charged a deposit, but then the bride ordered more cupcakes and thinking that there would be no issue and since she didnt have time to come and pay me extra i took money out of the deposit for the stand. The stand was returned completely ruined, and the amount left over from the deposit was not enough to replace it. The bride is still overseas but i will have a chat with her when she returns, that's for sure!!!

Personally I would definitely get a deposit in the amount of the fountain, so if anything happens to it, you can cash the deposit and get a new one, if it returns just fine, then you can just return the check.

As for the rental part I don't know how much-to me $20.00 seems reasonable, but I don't know how much replacement parts are for the fountains. I would take into consideration anything that might need replaced often (filters, lights) and make sure your cost is covered with a few rentals.

I hope I am on the right track, I will be keeping an eye on this thread So I know for future reference.

I use the lesser expensive Fanci Fountain by Wilton. I charge $25 for the rental and $60 deposit. I have used it several times and had no issues with it except for this last cake. The base of fountain tiers came back cracked so I just took the cost of replacing it out of the deposit.

As for the column and plates, I include one separation in the price of the wedding cake. For additional separations, I charge the full cost (plus a little) for the columns and plates. If the customer returns those items, I will refund a small amount of the cost.

Thank you for your replies. I did not think about getting a deposit or the fountain being returned broken! I am still too trusting thinking everyone will take care of it the way I would. It is just the $65 one that Wilton carries but the stores around here only carry one at a time so they are not always available.

I should have charged for the columns & plates too but did not. Now I will know for the next time. icon_smile.gif

Thanks again!
