Is there a recipe that i can use to cover a cake and then cover it with fondant? Like I guess a crusting buttercream I can smooth do I just add cocoa powder????

I just add cocoa powder to mine. Others here add chocolate syrup to theirs. You can do this also but you may need to add a bit more confectioner's sugar if your icing gets too thin.

I use the Chocolate Syrup chocolate icing recipe on this site. It is my favorite chocolate icing, but it needs a little extra powder sugar if you want it to crust. Let me find the crusting one I use. I don't do fondant so not sure how that one will work, but it sure tastes good!!!

I used the buttercream dream recipe and added cocoa powder to taste. Not sure how it would work with fondant as I haven't tried that yet, but it's a great buttercream recipe and tasted terrific as a chocolate buttercream.

The recipe called "My Easy Chocolate Buttercream Frosting" in the recipe section would work too since it has crisco in it.

You could easily do the VIVA paper towel crusting icing and just add the following;

In the bowl, combine the butter with 6 T. unsweetened cocoa or 3 ounces unsweetened chocolate, finely chopped. Rest the bowl over the simmering water and stir the mixture until melted and smooth. Remove the bowl from the heat and let cool to room temp, then continue as directed.
