Hi All!

If a recipe calls for buttermilk, can it be substituted with sour cream and vice versa? Do I use the same measurement for both?

I don't know about sour cream, but for every 1 cup of buttermilk, you can substitute 1 cup of yogurt or 1 tablespoon of lemon or vinegar plus enough milk to equal 1 cup.

Hope that helps.

Buttercream is way more liquidy than sourcream, also buttermilk has an acidity that I don't think sourcream does. I'm not an expert or anything, but I wouldn't think you could exchange these.

I just looked this one up today for my recipe, you use the same measurement of sour cream, so if it calls for a cup of buttermilk you can use a cup of sour cream. Also you can use one cup of milk with 1 3/4 tbs of cream of tartar, as a substitute.
