How do I make Tiffany Blue?

Wilton teal or Americolor teal and skyblue in equal amounts.

I use Americolor Teal with just a touch of leaf green.

For my Tiffany Blue show cake I used Americolor Skyblue and Teal. Americolor is the only way to go!!!!!!!!!!!

i have used both, and I happen to have a ton of wilton colors, it's what is easiest to find around here. I like both and well... use what you have. I haven't really gotten into ordering americolor online, but it does seem the colors are a bit easier to obtain the "right color" with.
But, I really don't ... ok I'm probably going to have my head bitten off, I really don't think it's that big of a deal. And since Wilton is what is available, and cost effective for me at the moment, it's what I use.

I use Americolor because it takes less for the dark colors and it is much easier to squeeze a drop of gel out of a tube rather than use a toothpick. I do use Wilton when they have the exact color I am looking for rather than trying to mix colors with Americolor. They seem to have the exact colors for those popular characters kids like.

As for Tiffany blue...I used sky blue and mint green, Americolor.

I'd also like to know what is wrong with Wilton colors. I know it's difficult to get a true red with any of the colors and unless you start with chocolate icing, black is equally challenging without having a slight taste problem. I've never really had any other problems though. Please let us know if you know something we don't or should.

I agree that Wilton's not as easy to use as Americolor's squeeze bottles but here is a mini cake with tiffany blue made using only the skyblue from Wilton?

I forgot...as far as convenience of availability, my ckae store who carries Americolor is very close to my house and Michael's, who carries Wilton is not. If it is easier for you to get your hands on Wilton and you have had good luck, why change. Maybe you could order some from CC or get them in your area and you can see which you prefer. There are things I prefer that others don't, whatever you prefer and works for you is best!

How many of you all on this site never use Wilton or don't once you have switched to Americolor? Wilton colors are messy. I don't care how you slice it, they are messy. Kind of like an ink pen that leaks and you can't figure out how it does it! Sure sure they do have colors that Americolor does not have like Golden Yellow yeah yeah but come on. You have to admit Americolor colors are the best and truest colors. I can't buy mine locally. I load up when I am in SD at my cake supply shop. If I'm running low, my sister sends me some.

Wilton doesn't have a bad taste, I was just trying to reemphasize that Americolor should be your first choice. Of course if you can't get your hands on any, order them from CC, or use Wilton.

Gee all! Calm down!! We are talking about icing colors here.

I didn't think anyone was getting excited, but I also don't know if you were refering to my post, I was just trying to say, to each his own. Yes, I do prefer Americolor for all the reasons you stated cakemommy, but I also didn't want others who use Wilton to feel like they were doing something wrong.

My gosh! This is rediculous! Fine, I admit, I have Wilton colors in my pantry. I hardly use them since I got Americolor but I still have them. The only color of theirs I use is Golden Yellow because Americolor's Lemon Yellow isn't the right shade for my military cakes. I am pleased to say though that I like the tab Wilton puts on their foil lids now. LESS MESSY! HA!!!! I said it!!!!! Something positive.

BTW, does Americolor have a different yellow other than Lemon?

I didn't think anyone was biting anyone's head off.. I did say , ok don't bite my head off, because at that time I seemed to be going against the flow of what everyone else is into. It's icing.. as long as it tastes good and you're happy with it who cares how you get the color in it ... lol.. personally i'd take a plain white icing that tastes like a dream then a pretty one that tastes horrible (like on the cake I had this weekend) I do not honestly know how anyone keeps using that Wilton Class Buttercream... UCK... but I guess, again if it works for them... Anyway.. lets not get our panties all in bunches, it's late and we're all not sleeping for one reason or another. We need to remember why we're here... cuz we're some crazy cake loving people... and not worry about the small details, like who uses what kind of color in their icing...

Golly, some people can't buy Americolor in their area, we can't we have to order it online. Plus I use up what I have as well, Wilton is messier but no one was arguing with you cakemommy. Some simply tried to offer alternatives...

Let's start this one off good alright!!! Now about that egg yellow. I haven't heard of that one. It sounds like it might be close to the golden yellow I use. I am assuming it's the yolk in question here?

Egg Yellow is comperable to Wilton's golden yellow and Electric Yellow is kind of neon. The color sample of Egg Yellow shown is not what it looks like in icing.

Would it suffice for what I use the golden yellow for? I basically have blue and "gold" cakes that I am required to make for the hospital.

I have a large stock of Wilton colors because that's all that's available in my area. I did pick up some Americolors when I was in Chicago and frankly I like the Wilton just as much as the Americolor. If you are coloring a very small amount of icing, it's actually easier to use Wilton. You can't use a whole drop of Americolor in a small amount of icing...it's waaaaaaaayy too much color. So you end up using a toothpick anyway! The only exception to this is the Super Red Americolor. It is by far the best red IMHO!!

I will have to agree with Americolor being easier and neater. The squeeze bottles makes it so much easier for me. Cake decorating is a lot of work as it is that i don't have time to look for toothpicks to keep dipping into the Wilton colors. However, I have used and do have Wilton colors and they work fine for me. I'm just more about convenience.

I'm not going to comment on the colors because I have to admit I have both and have used both but I am so new to this I really haven't formed an opinion about either. I love color so much that I have had a motto that the more color the better and I hate to discriminate against ANY color. BUT, still that's not what I wanted to say in this post. What I wanted to say was Cakemommy, I have seen your www. site and your creations are amazing!! Also, my nephew who recently returned for the SD Reserves returned recently with a bronze star. I don't know where you are but I hope your husband makes it back very soon and very safe. Again, your work is gorgeous!!

By the way, I only use Wilton colors, I had never heard of Americolor until I found this site. I have never seen it in stores around here, but I am considering ordering some. I think the squeeze tube might be less messy. I just try to be careful with the Wilton jars.

being prone to messy, and seemingly always getting stuck doing lots of red -- (as in again! this sunday for confirmation cake at church) -- I switched to Americolor and haven't looked back.

this doesn't mean I won't _ever_ use Wilton again -- but will probably be the rare exception.

When I responded to this thread a few days ago, I meant no ill will at all toward anyone. Lately I have noticed several people, including me, have been having trouble with assorted icings, cake mixes, etc. I guess I'm a little jumpy. I was just concerned about problems with Wilton's icing colors. Please forgive me if I came off differently than I meant to. Everyone is so wonderful here on CC about sharing their info & ideas with others. What I meant with my inquiry was if you knew of something that was really wrong or different, or if there happened to be changes with the Wilton icing colors, please share it with all of us. I definitely didn't, or don't ever want to sell my customers an inferior product. I, too, had never even heard of Americolor until I found this wonderful site. I have since ordered some of it from here on CC. Unfortunately, I have yet to use it. Like others have said, Wilton colors are more readily accessible than Americolor. When Hobby Lobby has the coupon that lets you get anything Wilton for 40% off, I usually go hog wild on the small things such as colorings. So, anyway, if I offended or upset anyone, I do sincerely apologize.

I have a bunch of Americolors that i have ordered from CC and i LOVE them! I just have to say i do still use my wilton colors for certain things. I find them better if i want pastel colors. I sometimes find it difficult to squeeze out a small enough drop of americolors if i am coloring a very small amount.
