I was going to make for my daughter's kindergarten end of the year party the crayola crayon box cake. And then I was going to make mini loafs into crayons with each child's name on them.

Well, after looking at the loafs they look just too big for little ones to eat. So I thought I would try turning twinkies into them and use a cut down sugar cone for the tip. After cutting the cone down it just does'nt look symectrical at all.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to make crayons? thanks in advance to all that respond. Here is the cake that I am making to go along with the large box of crayons.

I've never tried this before, but what if you baked the cake in either a tomato paste can (those little ones). Then use either the ice cream cones, fondant, or fruit rollups for the tip of the crayon. Hope this sparks ideas!

I have made these crayon cookies before and everyone loved them! (*this is not my pic.) You take sugar cookie dough, coloor it in a variety of colors, shape into crayon shape, bake them and then let them cool. Then take melted chocolate and pip on the lines and color namesicon_wink.gif Maybe this will help icon_biggrin.gif

I've seen people bake cylinder shaped cookies and then with melted chocolate attach a hershey's kiss at the end like the crown tip. Cover them in different colors and then pipe the logo and lines on when set. Just another idea to throw your way.

You could still make them in the mini pans and torte to make them smaller sizes for the kids. I think I would then use maybe a square cooke cutter or something else as a guide to make the triangel tip then decorate however you want.

I would love to see the pics when you finish.

Don't feel bad I still am learing the cake lingo myself. After the cake is cooled cut it in half from the side (in the middle of the cake or the desired height). You can use a tool for torting or a good serated knife. HTH

You can get a "cream boat cakelet" mold from William Sonoma (but its not on their website) or Bed Bath and Beyond sells the twinkie kits. There are recipes for the cake and filling if you wanted to go the twinkie route.

What about little rolled cakes? Like those Swiss Cake Rolls? Then perhaps a colored poured fondant?

the crayon box is so colorful and gorgeous! my suggestion for the individiual crayons would also be cookies, but for the paper on the cookie use piece of colored fondant , so it looks like a seperate wrapper
